| Higher Security Alert Level at the Airports My DSIL and family are flying to Orlando this morning(first Universal then meeting up with us at WDW). DBIL had gotten an awesome last minute Ding from Southwest and so they decided to fly at the last minute - for the convenience and cost. I called my DSIL this morning, expecting her to be sitting at the gate waiting to board, but she was still going thru the Security Line. Apparantly the Airports increased their Security Alerts because of a plot broken up by Scotland Yard in England, where terrorists were planning to blow up jetliners from England to the US. My DSIL said that security was not allowing ANYTHING liquid to come thru check-point of carry-on luggage. Her children had to drink all their bottled water before getting to security and the trashcans were overflowing with shampoo, toothpaste, shaving gel, etc!! (She was so thankful that she had her DH check the bag with all the family's toiletries , otherwise she said she would have had to dump or leave the entire bag) They did make it to the gate with plenty of time to spare, and the flight was on-time, until she called me a few minutes ago. Passengers were told that they could not leave until they had a full crew. Part of their crew was still going thru security check-points!!! My DSIL was taking everything in stride, it was better to err on the side of caution! - Oh and she told me that channel 3 news was in the terminal, so I clicked on the TV and THERE THEY WERE!!! I recorded it immediately!! I'm crossing my fingers that their plane won't be delayed for more than a few minutes!!! |

| Re: Higher Security Alert Level at the Airports Your poor family. That must be pretty scary too. Here's some pixies that they're not delayed very long!!! All those poor people with their lost toiletries. I know it's much much better to be safe than sorry-- but that still not a nice way to start your vacation. | Re: Higher Security Alert Level at the Airports I was watching the Today Show this morning and they interupted to make the announcement. How scary! Scotland Yard!! My mom flew to MCO on Tuesday and flies back to Vermont on Tuesday. I sent her an e-mail letting her know of the regulations. I can not even imagine the delays at MCO. They are BAD w/o having to worry about new regulations....I can't imagine what the lines are like now! |

| Re: Higher Security Alert Level at the Airports I woke to news on the local radio station announcing 45 minute waits in security lines at the airport. I was wracking my brains as to why today would be so busy, what was special about Aug 10. Later I turned on the TV to learn about the terror plot. That explained it. I fly out next weekend. I was only planning on carry-on luggage. Now I may have to rethink that strategy. |

The local newsradio station spoke with a man at Philly International at 8am who arrived at the airport at 6am for a 730am flight, and he was still in line with a ways to go before going through security. They also said that they had not seen any planes take off. |

| Re: Higher Security Alert Level at the Airports My DH left on Continental Airlines from Dallas to Houston this a.m. and I'm waiting to hear from him. I hate that he travels several times a month for business, but what can I do. At least he only travels with a laptop and not toilet items. |

| Re: Higher Security Alert Level at the Airports [ QUOTE ] Good luck to everyone traveling. Does anyone know where the plane was going? The rest of the country is on an Orange alert but New York City is at Red...? [/ QUOTE ] I don't know about the info you are getting over there but over here they have just said east coast targets. The airlines that were supposedly supposed to be targeted were Continental, American, and United. Apparently it was supposed to be up to 10 aircraft too. Karen |

| Re: Higher Security Alert Level at the Airports This is so sad. For some reason, I was awake at 5:00 a.m. (this is so not like me!) and I turned on the TV to see all of the news about the terrorists plot in the UK - and as the morning progressed how it is effecting all travel and our security level has gone up......then I thought about Marnie and her family - weren't they leaving today for their Grand Fiesta??? I don't think air travel will be very easy for a while! If there is anyone traveling very soon - I hope you have safe and uneventful travels!
