| I am going to whine because I = owch - UPDATED 7/3...hi ho hi ho, off to the OR I go So, I have MS. Great. Whatever. Had it since I was 19. Lovely. I'm over it. However, it never ceases to amaze me the new crap I get to deal with. I have this lump on the outside of my right foot, kind of in the middle. It's not on the top and it's not on the bottom, it's truly in the middle on the side. It hurts like he-double hockey sticks. Hurts so bad I can't walk which sucks because I already have problems walking. I went to the podiatrist when it first started and he said it was a tendon that had become inflamed because I had an extra bone in my foot. Que? I have taken Anatomy & Physiology... twice. I am a trained RN-medic. I don't understand the physics of this, but I go along for the ride. He gives me a cortisone shot in the area that I am crying ouch about. 15 minutes later I am in sheer agony on the floor. The pain dropped me to the floor and all I could do was scream. That wasn't pretty. So I called him on the phone, used a few choice words, and said under no circumstances do we ever do that again. Besides, I am allergic to steroids (cortisone usually doesn't bother me, so that's why I opted for it) and decided that it was for the best we don't do that anymore. Then he gives me this ugly shoe. I mean UGLY. It's horrible and it weighs a ton. Well, I have a weak knee on the right side from a trauma when I was 17 and the knee has had multiple surgeries. Well, like I said, I don't walk well. This stupid giant boot made me fall and I twisted my bad knee. Under the knife I went again to repair the ligament that was hyper-extended. The ligament is fake, so there was no hope that it would fix itself. It had to be cut and pasted back together. Fortunately, my right knee was so badly damaged that the nerves never healed. So, the knee surgery doesn't hurt too bad. In fact, it was one of the least painful surgeries ever. I only took pain meds to help me sleep through the night and that was for the first night. After that, I didn't need them. Not only did the boot hurt me more in a completely irrelevant place, but the boot caused me to get a horrible cut on my calf. The boot digs into my flesh and nothing short of a beach towel wrapped around my leg can provide enough cushion to prevent said boot from removing layers of flesh. The bad part is, I actually started to feel better in the boot, but as soon as I took it off, sheer agony. I was in pain from my missing flesh, my knee, and my foot. I hate the boot. Done with the boot. But the foot, the foot hurts very very badly. If I walk at all, within minutes, the foot is throbbing, the lump is more obvious, and I am wishing for amputation. It hurts so bad that I can't get up and walk for DAYS. I can't take the pain anymore. I am in pain with MS which I have learned to tolerate and overcome, but I just can't overcome this pain. There is no relief. It even hurts when I sit, just not as much. Ice doesn't help. Forget heat, it makes me scream. Water helps slightly. I find I am able to move better in general in the water, but as soon as I get out I need my chair because of my damn foot. Ugh! Calling the Dr. in the AM. Something has to be done. |

| I'm so sorry about your foot. Maybe you should get a second opinion from another doctor. It's scary to think you can have so much uncontrollable pain. I hope someone can find an answer for you soon. ![]()

| ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hope you find something to get rid of that pain quickly. When all else fails, go for the chocolate (unless you are allergic). If nothing else, it's a delicious distraction for a few minutes.

| i know how much pain you are in...suffer from plantar fasciitis myself...must be a nurse thing, and it sucks. i think surgery might be your only option, at least to see what the dreaded hump is about. i know of many people who have had cortisone injections to the foot for whatever reasons and it has made it worse. oh, girlfriend, i feel your pain...and hope you can get some morphine, lidocaine, fentanyl, versed even! |
