I'm very sorry for your loss. My mom died in May 2004 and I miss her every single day. I still cry although now I'm able to also have happy memories and think of the good times too. My uncle (her brother) told me something at her funeral that has always summed it up for me..... "It will never get better but it will get easier"

It does get easier. I lost my father twenty years ago, and have lost all my grandparents but one. I still miss them all so much, but I every year, I am sad less and less. I'm so sorry for your loss - your grandma sounded like an amazing lady.

Thank you all for your kind words. I think it's all of the Disney planning that makes me miss her. I called my grandpa yesterday just to check on him and he asked me when we were coming to visit. He says he wants to spend at least a day at Disney with us, which I'm thrilled about! I consider myself very lucky to have the family that I do. The women in my family tend to live a very long time (all of my great-grandma's lived to be at least 96), so her life being cut at least 20 years short just doesn't seem fair.
I'm sorry to those who have also lost loved ones!

I am so sorry for your loss. Does it get easier? Yes. But I still will cry for my mom, and she died 19 years ago.

People heal at different paces. My dear old dad passed away on September 11th, a few years back, but he always lived as if he could go tomorrow -- no unfinished business with anyone / anything. I still miss him sometimes, but he helped us to learn to be independent, so that helps...

There are loved ones in the glory,
Whose dear forms you often miss.
When you close your earthly story,
Will you join them in their midst?

As you can see from everyone's different answers, everyone grieves in different ways. Some think it gets easier while others don't; just know as time passes you learn to deal with it better. I've lost 2 very important family members and while I think of them daily, I usually only get teary and/or cry if visiting their gravesite and/or the dates of their deaths roll around.

There are plenty of support groups around that you could go to and share your thoughts/feelings with........you don't have to go thru this alone. Your Grandma sounds like she was a wonderful lady.....I'm sorry for your loss.

I lost my mom eight years ago to Lupus. You may want to check in your town and see if they do a Lupus walk, I do it every year in my mom's honor. It is still harder some days than others, but this may be a way to feel closer ro her when you walk. You'll figiure out you own way to deal w/ it. My prayers go out to you and your family.
