![]() Sounds like your DH and your whole family could benefit from some counseling/education to understand what it's like to have her condition and what are appropriate expectations for her . . .

| UPDATE Thank you everyone for all the pixies and good wishes. Unfortunately, the situation got a little rough for a while there and when DH and I started arguing about it, it totally killed my fabulous 'We're going to Disney!!!' vibe and I had to take a break from the boards for a while. I think we've at least come to an agreement (I don't think not letting her go on this trip is the right thing to do), at least for the time being. If she and DH stayed home, it would ruin the trip for everyone and that's just not fair. But more than that, I'm worried about the impact it would have on DD; I'm afraid it would do damage that she could never get over. But thank you again for everything |

| My second son was much more difficult temperamentally than his "beginner model" older brother or very independent little sister. He is just a normal kid who was a little harder than the average. I learned early that he thrived on structure, consistency and predictability. We had routines for everything and he was fine so long as he could follow the routine. All three of my kids had better summers when there was some structure-even a half day sports camp or daily swim lessons. Just having an hour or so away, often refreshed all of us. If you can't find a camp that holds her interest, make your home more structured. Have a schedule for her to do chores, help in the yard, maybe take up exercising with you. Maybe reward getting some things done with an afternoon swim. I would often pack up the kids and go to the pool from 4-5:30 or so. We often had it to ourselves and it was a nice way to calm down before dinner. Find a hundred things a day you can compliment her on-from doing a good job brushing her teeth, to eating breakfast nicely, to getting into the car, to listening even if it's only for half a second. Comment on the specific behavior- not a generic "good" and don't over compliment her-you're the best, you're the smartest are not as good as I really liked the way you put your bathing suit in the laundry room. I also sure puberty is not helping-all girls rage, cry and pout as they enter puberty. Diane |
