Petsitter charge? What's the going rate?

I have a friend watching my Moose while we are away at WDW this month. He will be at DF's home from Tuesday afternoon until Monday night. We plan on picking him up on the way home from the airport. My question is this - is $150.00 too much to pay?
I don't like putting Moose in a kennel, hence why my friend is watching him, but I also don't expect her to watch him for free. What do you all think?

I think $20-$25 a day is reasonable. I also try to pick up a gift from my travels.

We usually pay our pet sitter $15 a day because we ask him to drop by 3 times a day to give the dogs outside time. Lizzie just got done sitting for some folks and decided that $5 a trip was a reasonable amount to ask.

The pet sitter who comes by to check our cats once a day charges $10.00/visit. But then again, she fills up food and water bowls and that's it. If she came to walk the dog twice a day, the fee is $20.00/day.

We pay $17.00/day to kennel Duncan while we're on vacation.

I think a lot depends on how much care you pet needs - dogs do need a lot more attention than cats.

When I have pet sit for the neighbor's cats and dog, they have paid around $15 a day. The animals were at their own home, and I just had to let the dog out 2-3 times a day and make sure that they had plenty of food and water. I had a cat that I used to have to board at the vet's office because she had multiple medical issues. The vet's office charged $25 per day.

I think that depends on your area. Around here, the going rate is about $30/day. (I feel like I'm paying another airfare when we go away!)

I think what you pay your sitter depends on their age and experience. We used to pay the "Critter Sitter" lady $19 a visit (we only had her come twice), but she was an adult and we got her through the service. Our sitter now is a high school student who is very responsible, but doesn't have the overhead. Same with Lizzie. She's just a high school kid, so she is satisfied with asking less.

It's been a little over a year since we used a professional pet sitting service, but it was $15 per visit. We had her come three times a day, so $45 per day. She stayed at the house for about 30-45 minutes each visit. Besides taking care of the dog, she also picked up the mail and paper, put out the trash for the weekly pick up and left ligts on at different times of the day to make it look like someone was home. The fee also included dog walking, but since our dog is older we didn't ask her to do that for us.

Wow!! That is definitely a lot. Working at vets over the years, we get tons of brochures being brought in from various pet sitters wanting to put them in our lobby. Seems the going rate is anywhere from $15 to $25 a day, depending on how often they're going to your home and what they are doing while there. Lots of them will also offer to get your mail, newspapers, I've even seen some advertise they will water your plants too.

My DS12 has been a petsitter for our next door neighbors' cat a few times in the past year (in fact, he's petsitting this weekend!) He goes next door twice a day to check on the food/water/litter box and brings in the mail. Our neighbors gave him $80 for 5 days during their last trip - which sounded overly generous to me at first, but after reading this thread I guess it's less than they would have paid otherwise!
