My DD loves to receive Nintendo DS games. Every now and then and especially during exam times, I`ll do an online grocery shop for her, to be delivered to her door - that goes down very well.
As an aside - I also give her a taxi allowance, she see`s that as a luxury - I see it as a factor in her safety.

We had this very discussion here at the house with what the older kids loved about care packages.

The microwave Mac n Cheese was a survival food for them. Dominos and other delivery pizza gift cards, and chocolate chip cookies in those Gladware containers. The containers were dual purposed and it wasn't a loss of Tupperware when they didn't come back home. I also included plasticware every now and then.

Sometimes I sent a Clorox Wipes along to remind them to clean up after themselves too. Not that it happened!

I also made up a first aid kit and made an instruction list and labels. Sometimes kids don't want to go to the campus medical office, can't get there after hours or are too lazy (like mine). So I put in things like Sudafed, Claritin, cough drops, Pepto, Advil, Acid Reducer, Tums, antibiotic ointment, cortisone cream, Vitamins, bandaids, hand sanitizer, etc. I made labels on the computer in big letters to say CONGESTION or STUFFY NOSE, RUNNY NOSE, COUGH, DIARREA (I kept that in big print on the label for the embarrassment factor), HEADACHE/MUSCLE ACHE, UPSET STOMACH, CUTS, ITCH, etc. and also typed out a little helper sheet.

I would get phone calls where Camille would have a nasty cold and she'd call and ask what should she take from the kit. When she got married, the kit went with her!

I also sent him nuts (he loves cashews and almonds). He alway had a kitchen available so he brought back pancake mix and real maple syrup.

Be careful that you pack well-I sent one of my boys applesauce, which opened on route.

My son also liked to go shopping with his friends on the weekends, so gift cards to the local grocery stores were great. I think there are Wegman's in Syracuse. They have a great hot bar that Ben and friends would go to to bring a meal back to the residence.

Thats a great idea! I wish I thought of that when my son was there!

Since we are in Philly we send stuff to my nephew he can't get up there like Tastykakes. I just went to visit him and brought him 12 half gallons of his favorite Wawa Ice Tea since there aren't any Wawa's up in MA.
