| DD is going to be Senate Page The other day we got a newsletter form our State Senator. It was filled with the usual "This is what I am doing for you." rhetoric that fills the majority of these mass mailings. However, in one little section was a brief blurb about the Senate Page Program. This is a program offered to students between ages 6 and 18. (Yes, it said 6.) So DD thought that would be really cool. I emailed our Senator's office and got some more information on it. And now, DD is scheduled to go be a Page for Senator Heger during her Spring Break. It will be for half a day and she will be able to sit on the Senate Floor with the Senator and his Messenger. Not even their staffers get to sit on the Senate floor. This is such a unique opportunity for her. She doesn't know yet, that I have been able to work out the details and secure a date for her to work there. |

| She's 12 and in the 7th grade. Here in Texas, 7th grade social studies is Texas History. That adds an even greater reason for her to do this. What better way to learn the way her state government works, than to be there to see it in action? |

| How amazing! You inspired me to look up the Senate Page Program under my congressmen, but they require kids to be at least 16 years of age. But I will definitely keep this mind down the road. (My son is 12.) Congrats on your success. Your daughter is sure to have an unforgettable experience!

I was really surprised to find that the Page Program here allowed them so young, but I know she is going to have an incredible experience and one that will give her a lifetime of memories. On a side note, she has already decided that she wants to discuss something with the Senator. She has been very vocal about her feeling that students should be allowed PE or some other physical activity on state testing days. Her reasoning is that physical exercise helps to rejuvenate the brain and allows the students to be more alert later in the day and therefore do better on their test. She wrote a letter to all our state congressmen last summer. | |

| Congratulations to your dd! My oldest did this last summer for our local State Representative (who also happens to be her dentist). Her program was for 4 days and she had a great time. It looks really good on a college application, too. I believe it helped her get in UNC-Chapel Hill this year. |
