| In Need of Pixies... As some of you might know while I was in WDW in June, my BIL called to say that his uncle (my MIL's brother) had collapsed and they rushed him to the hospital with what they said was a heart attack. He has been in a coma every since... Uncle Ed was not a healthy man by any means, he had his first heart attack and a quadruple bypass at 36, he was a severe diabetic and had a minor stroke but he never let this stop him. He was the father figure for my SIL, and my BIL's and he was a father figure to my DD8, she was his life and he never let the fact that he was not feeling well stop him from being there for them. The past year has not been good for him, he tried to hide it but my MIL (who has lived with him for years to be there for him) knew that he was truly fighting so hard, on Easter he came to my house for dinner and he was really tired but he said he had to keep going becuase he was going to be there for my DD8's confirmation in May. He did just that, he made it there (and I knew he was not doing well that day) and he would not even leave until the last party guests left that night... My daughter spent the weekend there before we left in June as she knew that Uncle Ed would miss watching cartoons with her since she would be in WDW (I now am so happy that they had this time together). The day before we left, my MIL was feeling sick so he went and picked her up from school... Last night my BIL called around 10:45 to say that the hospital called as his BP had dropped, I made it there first (within 15 minutes) and they were working on him, just as the rest of the family was coming into the parking lot (I was watching from the wondow) my other BIL (17 yo) came up and the doctors came out and said that they tried by that he had passed on... He was 48 years old and this loss was taken so hard by my BIL's as he was everything to him. My BIL thought it was best for me to be the one to tell my MIL (she stayed at the house with my neice) so I went to say my goodbyes and took my SIL and another aunt back to the house, someone had slipped on the phone so she knew and she was trying to be strong but it was so hard for her. She and her brother were like two peas in a pod, there were as close as siblings could be, he was truly dedicated to her and she to him... I finally got hom around 3 am and my neighbor carried my DD8 upstairs for me becuase I really just wanted her with me, my neighbor had said she had started to cry becuase I was not there and that she knew I was lying and that something was wrong (I had told her I was going to the store)...she woke up when I put her in the bed and she looked over at me and said "mommy did Uncle Ed go to heaven now"...that is when it really hit me that he was gone and what an impact this is going to have on her as she was so close to him. If you could send some pixies for them it would truly be appreciated, especially for the kids as this loss will truly be felt to them as he was such a huge part of their daily lives...to them he was the one father figure who was always there for them. |
