| HELP.... my dog has fleas!!! How do I get rid of these nasty things? We tried the flea bath, flea collar and flea drops, NOTHING. Thankfully she hasn't given them to our other dog or the cat, YET. Anyone have any other ways to get rid of these things besides the expensive stuff from the vet? I checked out 1800petmeds and they want alot for there flea stuff. | If the dog is inside, the fleas are inside, too. Not only do you need to de-flea the dog (and the other critters, believe me, they have them too) you need to de-flea the whole house. This is a tedious process involving bombing or spraying the house thoroughly, washing the linens/curtains, vacuuming everywhere and throwing out the vacuum bag, and cleaning any of the pet's bedding. Just treating the dog will NOT take care of the problem. Once you are done with the house and the flea problem, a good preventitive like Frontline will help.

| Hi, I have alwasys used frontline and that works like a charm. My parents used to always have problems with fleas, they tried everything..this was before frontline, and they always used Garlic Tablets and that stopped the fleas and they never came back.

But what ever you do, make sure you treat the dogs with DOG stuff and the cat with CAT stuff. They can have bad, bad reactions from using the other. (and in the dog it will mimic distemper - found this out when we pulled up to the vets once and they came running out - "We have a possible distemper, please keep your animals out here for now" - and it proved to be people who had treated the puppy with kitty flea stuff) Good luck! It's tough. Also, make sure to wash as many of your clothes as possible in hot water. Only the clothes that you've worn around the dog - not those in the cabinet or closet for the last few months. And, you'll need to wash the doggie beds if you have them - or throw them out and get new.

| Uggh...I know your pain! We had the WORST summer last year for fleas...it was terrible. This year hasn't been as bad, but still a pain to deal with. Frontline is expensive, but it works. Sterilizes the little suckers when they bite so the cycle is broken. Talk to your vet, we've also used a product called CapStar that is the best stuff ever. It's an oral med, my dog thinks it's candy. We had to use last summer when it was so bad. They take it and within 30 minutes, every flea on them is DEAD. Also, 20 Mule Team Borax is very effective at home. You find it on the laundry detergent aisle. Sprinkle it on the carpet, rub it in, let it set at least 30 min and then vacuum it up. When you're done, throw the vacuum cleaner bag away. Daily vacumming will also help - keep a flea collar in the bag to make sure the fleas are killed. That being said...you will have to treat all your pets. The dog will have to get regular baths with flea killing soap, and you will have to treat your carpets more than once. It totally bites...pun intended! |

get a handle on the dogs fleas you will need to combat the house fleas. I know that Frontline is expensive, but it's well worth it.

| Thanks everyone for the advice. She still hasnt shared them with the other dog or the cat. We check everyday. Hers arent that bad. We've only seen a couple of them on her since the flea bath, collar, and drops. So we will see how it goes. |

| Yuck, I feel your pain. Our vet also suggested to put a flea collar inside the vaccuum bag/canister. That way it should kill anything in your vaccuum. The collars don't do much for the dog, but apparently it helps with the vaccuum. Yep, we've been using Frontline ever since our fiasco too. Yes, it's pricey, but it works!!!!

We rely on Frontline for our cat and I know it's the only thing that works for the dogs in my extended family. Worth every cent.
