| Took her to her records appointment for the orthodontist. Shabby little grungy office, I should have known better, but it was where the insurance said we needed to go. They wouldn't let me go back for the x-rays, etc and it was 45 minutes before they called me back. She was a shaking, icy-handed MESS (and I had CLEARLY written "anxiety/panic disorder" and "fear of latex allergy" and they used latex on her). The dentist said she needed to clean her teeth better (just had a cleaning last week) and we'd come back after they get final approval from insurance. I asked what his treatment plan would be and he said he wouldn't tell me until the next appointment. OK, whatever, right? They walked out and left DD in the chair with the "bib" on, so I went to take it off to find her light pink Tink shirt with yuck all over it. I asked her what happened and one of the office staff said, "Oh, she has a really bad gag reflex". Her afternoon appointment was MUCH better and she really liked the new psychiatrist, so that was quite a relief. He is excellent at getting her to open up and she very happily shared her "show & tell" she brought a long (just in case she liked him, she brought her unit study on ancient Rome

| OMG that is horrible! Those people should have their license yanked! Braces are bad enough (I wore them for 5 years...+rubberbands+headgear+ retainer) without their complete disregard for your DDs's well being! |

| I thought the orthodontist's office was one of the most kids friendly places we went. I actually wondered how his adult patients felt. Where we are orthodontists compete for business and go all out to get it. I would call the pediatrician or dentist and get a recommendation from them. Maybe going off the insurance preferred providers will cost a little more, but it will be worth it. Glad your DD liked her other appointment. Diane |

| You can call the State Board of Denistry to file a complaint against the guy. There is no excuse for the callous way they treated your child, expecially knowing her history. I hope this experience doesn't turn her completely off from going to the dentist. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| State Board of Dentistry - for the dentist AND the hygenist. There is no excuse for being like that. That makes me so angry for her - Lauren is (I think) a bit older than your DD, and I go back with her unless she asks me not to (which she does now - she doesn't want mommy holding her hand anymore). I would also make a complaint to the BBB.

| I am in shock at the orthodontist lack of care! I wouldn't go back either and I would report them to someone - who do you report orthodontist to? It is shameful to treat a child like that, anyone like that. I am glad she liked her new doctor! That is a definite plus!! Danielle

| Dawn I am so sorry for what she had to go through...I still cannot believe that would not let you back there with her, especially after telling them that she had anxiety issues. I agree...definitely would not go back there, just the fact that she was ill and they did not call you in definitely not the doctor for her.Glad the new psychitrist worked well for her, that is so important as if she is comfortable it will make it so much better for her treatment....hope that things go well at her next appointment as well... |

| I have never been to an apointment growing up where the Dr. didn't let my parents back with me. I wouldn't go back without them. Okay, except for the last time I went into a dentist's office. The quack wouldn't let my mom back, decided against a teeth cleaning and proceeded to pull four teeth (telling my mom they were emergencies and I was double absessed everywhere and that I TOLD him I was in pain. total lie. He told me that my mother scheduled this appointment. Funny, because the office lady called and also said it was for a cleaning) he ended up pulling 5 teeth because one WAS THE WRONG ONE. I have a gaping hole in my smile because of the idiot. top it off his family went to our church (not him just the women in the family) and so mom thought that I blew things out of proportion (I was "cranky" because of all the pullings) I refuse to go to a dentist unless it's absolutely a must now. Screw teeth cleanings, or check ups. they're just in it for the $$ anyway. so I feel for your daughter. I haven't met kid friendly tooth drs. yet.

| Tonichelle, I don't know how long ago the extractions were, but what you describe is a classsuc law school torts case. If you did not consent to treatment, you were conscious, and there was no life threatening emergency, in most states what the dentist did would consitute an assualt and you would be able to sue the dentist. Unfortunately in most states the statute of limitations is also only a few years. Diane |
