| The energy efficient bulbs (compact flourescents(CFL's)) are a bit dim for a minute or 2 until they "warm" up. Once they warm up they're actually brighter than the typical incandescent bulb. I have 1 recessed light in my master bedrooom that's centered between the 2 closets (1 on either side) that form the short "hallway" to the master bathroom and untill I put in the energy efficient bulb had been seriously considering putting up track lighting because there just wasn't enough light. However after putting in the energy efficient bulb I stopped considering track lighting because there's plenty of light now. The "warm up" time for the cfl's does take a little bit of getting used to but I don't really notice it any more. |

| That's a huge savings. Way to go! Now if I could only get my husband to actually turn off lights, he's worse than the kids! He thinks I like to live in a dungeon if I don't have every light in the house turned on. |

| I imagine some of that savings is from less use of your air conditioning as well, right? Doing the things you've done will save you money but not over a hundred in a month. If you don't use air conditioning....then WOW! We've found our bills have gone down about $15-20 each month due to the new bulbs and using more cold washes. We've also put powerstrips on a lot of our electronics, because plug-in devices drain power even when they aren't being used and we didn't want to have to go around unplugging everything all the time when we were done with them.

| CFL's Congrats on saving the money! We have had some good luck and bad luck with the CFL's. The ones that go in to the small bases (i.e chandeliers) or were the vanity type have not lasted very long and generally were dimmer than most other CFL's. We ended up replacing those back to regular light bulbs t, we don't use those that often. It could have been the brand (there were bought at Walmart, but the name was not a namebrand) while the the normal base for lamps we bought at Home Depot. We haven't had a problem with those being dim even from the start.

| The thing you need to check, is what you paid for the same time period last year. Does it show that on your bills? (ours does), or do you keep your bills from prior years that you can look at? That will give you a better idea of what you've saved during a particular month.

| Our bill for our 2 bedroom apt in GA is $57 this last month! Sure beats $150 - $300 in 3 bdr townhouse in MD! Actual cost for unit of electric in GA is 1/5 the cost as in MD!!!! I couldn't believe it when I compared bills and did the math! Also there are less "delivery fees" in GA. But being in an apartment I haven't changed all the light bulbs. Bought an energy star washer, hardly turn on lights, always use cold wash water for laundry. |
