i don't use the web based photo storage sites, but there have been several news stories today about companies using people's photos in their advertising or web sites without permission. flikr was the one they mentioned but the stories basically said if your pictures are out there, anyone can use them. i thought those sites were password protected.

Shutterfly, Snapfish, York, and department stores, are password protected, but Flickr and Photobucket are much easier to access because they allow you to link or post your photos to blogs and such. Anyone who clicks on a blog photo from your account will be directed to a link to your album with access to ALL your photos in most cases.

That's why it can be better to only post the reduced images -- they are probably not as valuable... I think photos you post to the Passporter photo section are protected. I think you should at least try and watermark most images, like bradk and others do. I may start doing that...

the one lady whose was suing the ad agency for using the image of her dog, had a copyright on the photo i think they said. she made a comment about flikr letting you do such and she thought that protected her photo.
