| Am I being too vain? I just got news today that my beautiful baby boy (well, he just turned 9) has to get braces. Not just moving his teeth but changing his facial structure (jaw expansion and stuff). We go to WDW in February and I am upset that we wont have one last vacation with him 'looking' like my baby. I know its probably just me being sad that he is growing up, but I'm still kinda bummed about it. Just tell me I'm being silly! ![]() |

| You're just being a mom. It's hard to watch them grow up.

| There, there, we all have to go through this eventually! Technology is so great these days on the braces front that is! They have these nifty little invisible "invisaline" braces that look like a very thin mouthguard - even from a few feet away you cannot see them. My DS is scheduled to have his moulded in the new year and for now wears a retainer which is not that obvious either. Besides placing bricks on his head I don't think you will stop your DS from growing up but good luck trying!

| I probably wouldn't think about that at all. But I understand the feeling of seeing our little ones grow up!

| I was much worse when my oldest got his braces off and grew 6 inches in a year. When he hugs me. my head is on his shoulder now - I do not like him growing up.

| I totally understand. As far as a 9 year old getting all of that done. I would definitly seek a second opinnion and make sure they do a bone study, looking at how his bones are growing in relation to each other. We had this done when son was 9 and found out that it was ill advised to start treatment that early becuase the treatment would have created as many new issues as it would have fixed. So our dentist and orthodontist, after getting the bone study results, told us it would be better to wait. He would look crowded and crooked and extra year or so, but it would be worth it becuase he would be in braces for a shorter time, and it would cost less. He is now 13 and his teeth are coming along great after a year and a half in braces. He has only one year left on his treatment, then goes into an affixed retainer. We are very happy with the results. So I advise a second opinnion!
