| Deoderant for kids I'm wondering what age is good to start using deoderant. DS Bradley is starting to smell a little funky under his arms... We still help him in the shower, so we know he is being cleaned properly under his arms with soap and all. And putting baby powder under there doesn't seem to help. I also know, they say the regular deoderants have things in them that could cause problems for kids, like Alzheimer's, etc. So, what age did your kids start using deoderant? And do you know where to find kid friendly brands?

| My kids each started using it when they started stinking. Varies with every person. I think one was 8, and one was almost 17. I'm not sure about the whole alzhiemer's thing, I rather think that they can get any study to show anything they want it to. I'm also not a big believer in a lot of the hype in the media - especially things like 'vaccinations cause autism'. So, my kids just always used what ever they wanted to - Secret, Teen Spirit, whatever they liked the smell of and would USE. We have friends from France who use crystals. They're very popular over there instead of the commercial stuff. I don't know if they get theirs here, or pick it up when they're in Paris, they go 3 to 6 times a year. I did find a website to some that claims to be the same stuff. Crystal Body Deodorant - Product Information The hardest part is getting the kid to USE it. Once you're there, you've won half the battle. Question - how old is your son? If you're worried that he's not old enough to start smelling a bit, you can always ask your pediatrician. |

| My oldest son started wearing deodorant at late 10/early 11. I noticed him smelling "manly" occasionally after running around outside. He wears axe- it smells good. My younger son, barely 10 does not smell at all, but started wearing deodorant a few months ago at his request. He said they came in off the playground at school one day and the teacher made an announcement that "5th graders should be wearing deodorant". LOL- I guess the class didn't smell so good! LOL. I think some kids "mature" faster than others and need it sooner. I really don't think my ten year old "needs" deodorant yet- he's still built like a little kid and does not really have BO yet, but I went ahead and got him axe also so that he can get in the habbit of wearing it, plus he wants to wear it. Now my older son looked more like a teenager at 10 and was starting to get BO, so he "needed" it at that age. If you can smell them, they need it no matter what that age is!

| When the girls started about the age of 10...my nephews at 9......girls love teen spirit because of the fragrance.....boys use axe or other manly one......I don't believe in the deoderant causes problems in kids thing....so that was never an issue. Just getting them to use it everyday when they really did start needing it was as easy/hard as getting it into their routine in the morning. Shower, underclothes, deoderant, dress, breakfast and brush teeth in that order.

| Bradley is 5. That is why it seemed a bit young to me. He has an appt in about 10 days for an ear infection recheck. I'll mention it to them then as well. I have a feeling they may just say, if he needs it then use it...

| I can't remember how old DS was. Maybe 11 or 12...I know he was in junior high school. Most of the kids were wearing Axe, so that's what we got him and he's still using the same brand at 17. There are a lot of different scents to choose from. DH liked DS' so much, that he switched too. DS likes the Axe Dry and DH prefers the 'non-dry' Axe. DS also likes the Axe body wash - he prefers the clear bottles that hold the colored gels - he says it's not as runny as the stuff in the black bottles. Hope this helps!

| My son's 11, and he needs it. He started out using something I'd bought for DH that DH didn't like. When it's gone, he wants Axe. Apparently the ladies love it There are the crystals that Teresa mentioned and some other alternatives that can be found at health food stores if you're worried about the chemicals.

| I think we started my boys at around 10 or 11. The older 2 use it. My youngest is 9 and I don't think he needs it yet. Beth

| My 10 year old daughter needs to use it because she's just starting to smell, LOL. She uses Teen Spirit. Both my DDs, 10 & 7, use deodorant on their feet when they wear their Uggs boots.

| I used it when I started to need it which was 4th grade. So 10 or11 ???? I shaved my legs for a while before I used deoderant though. I know the girls like teen spirit (I used it too) and Axe brings the ladies calling (my ex uses it......) so I see why the young guys like it. Boys always smell like wet dogs to me though if they are running around all sweaty. Blech. God bless girls |

| 5 seems quite young, but I don't think it will do any harm. I agree with Teresa, they can make those studies say what they want them to say. Kylor was 10 and Jalen was 8, but only in the summer.

| DD was about 9 or 10 when she started using deodorant. She used Secret, Teen Spirit, and Degree at different times. Now she uses Dove because that is what I use and I buy a twin pack. DBF says he started using deodorant at around 9. He uses Degree for Men and sometimes Axe. I think he smells better when he uses Degree.

| I remember coming home one day and saying "I think I smell" and starting to use deoderant then - I was maybe 10 or 11?
