Got the flu bug, a mug question *updated in #23*

well, I suddenly got hit with some kind of flu sunday night, and so far I'm miserable. I want to check, is the wdw mugs microwaveable? I don't want to heat water for tea and melt one of my favorite mugs. I'm also very behind in my assignments because of this dang bug! The Student Health Services wanted to pescribe a med, but it were 65 bucks!! I just don't have the money for it!

Hope you're feeling better soon!
As far as the mug, I wouldn't put it in the microwave.

Is it one of the plastic mugs? I'm not sure if the plastic is safe for microwaves. I'm not worried about the mug, but about toxins leaching into your tea!

I am so sorry to hear that you have the bug. I hope you are in a comfy place. I remember some dorms are not very home-like.

Can I tell you what I tell my students? Don't let your grades slip because of this. If you are behind in your assignments, make sure you have documentation that you went to student health services and that you have what now has it's very own acronym ILI (Influenza like illness). (Sigh, I heard that the first time the other day. I can never follow a conversation with all these silly abreviations!)

Anyway, depending on how long the bug lasts, and how far behind you get, you can ask for an extension on your work. If you need more info, or if you ask for an extension and get a problem, let me know, but most profs should be OK with that.

I know that my college does not was anyone coming to class with flu symptoms...oh, excuse me...ILI. You are actually doing your school a service by keeping your little buggies to yourself, and I sure don't want you to have penalties because of that!

Did health services give you any instructions other than offering meds?

the standard drink fluids, stay in room, only go out for essentials.

looks like I'm pretty much stuck for fluids, except water and water around here tastes metallic.. ew I can handle it tho, but not when I'm sick, and my taste buds are off.
and Since I took some ibuprofen, I can work on projects, but I probably will need plenty of rest breaks.

oh I forgot, all my courses has a strict attendance policy, so I can only go for 2 days with abscences without suffering a penalty.. can't go for a week if this is the big bad "ILI" talk about being stuck.

Sounds like a plan. Be sure to take care of yourself! Here in NJ, it is not yet regular flu season, so we are taking any flu symptoms very seriously with plans to close schools if the numbers are too high. I'm not sure about where you are, though.

Can you keep in touch with your profs by email? You can ask them to send any class notes or handouts to you so you can review. (I am always impressed when a sick student does that!)

I'd like to add try to make sure that you wash your hands a silly number of times and put all tissues into a plastic bag to the instructions they gave you.

I'm so glad that your son's college did that. I feel so bad when students feel stuck between a rock and a hard place when they are honesty sick, but have rigid teachers.

Alot of NJ schools have suspended the perfect attendance awards, because they are concerned that kids will go to school sick.
