| Last week was really bad in Michigan, on Friday almost 200 schools were closed! This weeks seems to be a bit better, but I'm still hearing of a lot of people down with it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

| From everything I've heard, most people in the States seem to know someone with swine flu (as we're still calling it over here). I honestly don't think it's that widespread here at the moment. We were hit harder earlier in the year, during the summer, and yet our vaccination programme is much less wide-ranging than yours seems to be, which seems very ironic... to everyone suffering at the moment.

| The South is taking a hit! (GA) Two of my neighbors kids have recently had it. My son's BFF just got over it. And there are several others with that I don't know personally, but that are in school w/my kids. Praise God my kids have stayed well! They all got the H1N1 and the Seasonal Flu immunizations. The three youngest still have to go in for a second round though around December 1st. The kids that I have known with it all seem to be having pretty mild cases though. (But a full week out of school, yikes!) My neighbor has a family member that died from it last month, so that is scary......

| I've been doing some thinking. since I'm an history buff, I know the flu epidemics in the early 1900s were very deadly, but this time around, most are surviving because of better meds and care. its hard to imagine this happened almost 100 years ago! approximately in 1910's so, influenza must have a some kind of 100 year cycle when it really spikes up.. the 1910 flu epidemic were called the Spanish influenza.. and you all know what the modern super contagious flu is..

| The last two weeks have been rough in this area of Michigan (including my house), too. Seems like things are getting better. Less people getting it, but that isn't surprising, because it seemed like just about EVERYBODY already had it!

| In September and early October it was rampant in our schools here. I haven't heard much about it in our area lately. Could we be over the hump?

| Wow! Except for one week, our region has led the entire time . . . & we weren't too far behind on that one week.

| The swine flu hit Colorado hard in August when kids came back to school. For many days in September and October we had up to 25% of our students out with flu-like symptoms. One week we had 5 teachers out all week and 3 of those were in the hospital. Seriously, of my 300 students, I can think of maybe 10 who have not been sick this year.
