It was really good. I took my six year old but he's a huge sci-fi nut and he really enjoyed it. I think it's more for 10 years old and up it had 1 bad word that I know of, but tons of violent scenes and there was kind of a morbid scene mixed in with some gore. Otherwise the story was great and I wasn't expecting to laugh so much! It could totally be a date night movie.
All I know about it is that the guy who played Tim Riggins in Friday Night Lights plays John Carter. The previews make no sense to me, LOL. disney has a website aobut it that supposedly explains what it is. It was in the last Disney Insider email I got.
It's based on a series of stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs (the Tarzan author) starting with The Princess of Mars. I just picked up a collection of the first 5 books for my Nook from Barnes and Nobel for $3.99.
Thanks for the review! It's nice to hear I'm not alone on being confused by the previews. DH is a sci fi fan and I love comedy, so we'll have to check it out.
I am intrigued by the previews. It kinda reminds me of Firefly/Serenity....which I loved! Don't know if I will make it to the theater - It just burns me up how much it costs to go to the movie.
We saw it last night, and we all liked it. It reminded us of Star Wars quite a bit. My DS and I intrigued and will be checking out the books. DH said he read somewhere that Star Wars was actually based loosly on John Carter which totally makes sense now that I've seen the movie.
Most modern sci fi authors claim the Barsoom series as inspiration. Even Michael Crichton named John Carter on ER after the character from the books. It bothers me that although the book is 65 years older than star wars people are saying this movie looks like a star wars rip off.
