I think you need to let your brother know. Glad you have a meeting set up with him. This is so out-of-bounds I can't even think this person has any quals to do the job. Hope everything works out.
I read this post in the middle of the night and didn't know what to say. In the light of day, things still strike me as strange. I know consultants can be brought in to see how the office and work more efficiently and maximize income. I thought they did their evaluation and made recommendations as to process improvement and these recommendations were made to the person who hired them to accept or not.
I wonder what's going on in this consultant's head? Did you rub her the wrong way? Does she have a friend or relative who needs a job? Why would she target you and even worse discuss it with the support staff? Unless you are doing something extremely bad (like stealing), how could she ever make such a recommendation after only a week?
I hope things work out and the only thing lost is the money your brother paid the consultant. Good employees and a good atmosphere are hard to find. And for me, the office staff can make or break a visit for me. I like when the office staff makes clients/patients feel comfortable.
I've never had a "consultant" that was anything more than a waste of money. They never take enough time to see how the business is currently working before making all these suggestions that aren't necessarily a good fit for your particular situation. Did this consultant consider that maybe you bring more to the job than just managerial duties? Did (s)he consider that maybe because you're his sister, you bring your brother a sense of security? He knows he can trust you and count on you because you're family. He knows you will never leave him in the lurch. He knows he can talk to you about everything because he knows you're on his side. Loyalty is worth a lot these days in business. A consultant is sometimes someone who is too lazy to do the work themselves, they just want to tell others what to do.
Good luck. And I hope the consultant moves along soon,
Consultants charge a ridiculous amount of money and rarely truly understand the business they are consulting with - sorry your brother felt the need to hire someone outside.
It's not so much as firing me, it's what would be my role after this and what my salary would be? The office wouldn't be able to support 2 managers' salaries. My pay would most likely be cut by 1/4 to 1/3. My biggest issue is that she told my coworkers about hiring someone. If she was thinking that, it should have been run by my brother in her report for him to decide.
She has been consulting for 11 years, first with a dental consulting firm and then started her own business a few years ago. Our biggest issue is marketing the practice and getting new patients. We asked her what her ideas were. She never responded, but asked us what our ideas were about marketing and wrote them down on her giant post-its. So, that's what we are doing. Our ideas! DUH!
Our work environment is horrible and we are under so much stress. I had my coworker go thermonuclear on Thursday at work, go home and then call me 15 minutes later swearing about what another coworker said. I shut her down and told her she was inappropriate. I wasn't going to listen to her.
I'm going for a massage today so I hope I'm able to relax a bit. Thanks for all the pixies!!!!
