First day of school! - A quickie update! Today was our first day of school, and I had only 8 students! I couldn't believe it! It was such a great day and my mind started racing about how much I could do with only 8 students! Realistically, I will probably have 5 or so more students, but that is still a small class! What great first day!!!

Re: First day of school! That IS a small class! DH has 29 in two classes and 31 in another. It is nearly impossible to teach with that many students! Sounds like you may be in for a great year!

Re: First day of school! I'm so jealous and happy for you at the same time. I teach 8th grade science and 2 of my classes are jam packed, 27 in one and 25 in another (its a lab so I am sweating the close quarters!!!) But I'm sure you'll have an awesome time with your class!! You should let us know all the cool stuff you get to do with such a small group!!!!

Re: First day of school! Both you *and* the students are lucky! How great that you will get the chance to do some really stuff! When I was a teacher, my smallest class was 12, but it was Senior AP English, so pretty tough. Now, my class is 3...11th, 3rd, and 1st grades (homeschool! )

Re: First day of school! I am teaching 4th grade in a very special (albeit struggling) school in Brooklyn. Our principal is great and she has created an extra class for our grade so we all have pretty small registers. I am up to 10 students right now and it is so nice to have a class this small. Maybe tomorrow the rest of the students will come back from summer vacation, but for now, it is a dream!

Re: First day of school! - A quickie update! So tomorrow is the last day of the second week, and I *still* only have 12 students! This has been an amazing experience so far...we have done so much, it feels like November already. The kids love having so much space to move around in the class and I love having so little work to check and return. ![]() Keep your fingers crossed that the register stays this low! ![]() Sarah

Re: First day of school! - A quickie update! I love those small class sizes. They are great, you get to accomplish so much more and the learning results are great. I too work with a small group of teenagers, currently we have nine, that number will go up as soon as football season and they go over senior transcripts again to see who is to far behind in credit over at the traditional high school. We live in a very rural area but, for you to have such a small group in a big city is wonderful.
