| Anyone have experiences with Wellbutrin? I am very concerned about my Dear Niece (12). She has been on Wellbutrin 150mg for about 1-1/2 years. She said she lost her meds and has not been taking them for the past few weeks. I know this is VERY bad for her. I asked her if she told her mom. She told me she did. (My Sister-in-law has never been responsible for keeping her prescription filled in the first place. I know she's been off several times before)
The bad part is that she just started Jr High and is now becoming very stressed (and hormones are playing a part too), failing tests, etc. She is complaining about being nauseous (has even become sick), shaking, cold feet, body aches (could this be withdrawl). She is not doing well in school and seems to have problems focusing.
It's hard to approach DSIL on this as she doesn't see this as a concern--one less thing to buy. Her response is "oh". I going to see if I can get DH to talk to her as she feels like I'm overstepping my bounds. My DN is going to see her counselor this weekend (I hope) so hopefully this can get resolved.
I sometimes wish DSIL would just leave for a while and we could get the kids. My DSIL actually told DN to "find a tutor" when she asked for homework help. |

| Re: Anyone have experiences with Wellbutrin? As someone who was on an antidepressant/antianxiety medication in junior high, I can say that you definitely need to do something. Make sure your DH talks to DSIL. What she is doing to her child is beyond wrong. Junior high is hard enough without adding that into the mix. Sending some your way in hopes that DSIL will wake up and decide to be a good mother to DN. |

| Re: Anyone have experiences with Wellbutrin? I've taken Wellbutrin for a few years now and have had episodes where I have forgotten or left them at home . I never had any withdrawals, *BUT* the depression came creeping back in and with it, stomach upset, difficulty focusing, tired all the time, etc. She could just be experiencing the effects of what she was taking it for in the first place. My docs never said anything about "stepping" it down, so I don't know for sure. What I *DO* know is that she needs to have someone get on her mother to keep her prescription filled and for her to stay compliant with her meds. This is one of those times that "family fuzzies" fly out the window and *someone* looks out for the best interest of your niece, even if it's children's services. A call from a counselor might do it, but if the mom is a flake, that may have no effect at all. Here's some that she'll feel better...being 12 stinks enough as it is! |

| Re: Anyone have experiences with Wellbutrin? Your poor DN needs some help. I don't know about Wellbutron. I have anxiety and take a different med. What you have described is not good, your DN is what is known as an At-Risk child. I've been working with At-Risk kids in our school district now for 10 years. At-Risk can mean a variety of things. The child is failing in school, the child is being neglected or abused mentally, physically, sexually, the child is depressed, suffering anxiety, using drugs or alcohol, is having unprotected sex, pregnant, behaving criminally, suicidel, violent, etc.The school that she goes to should have acknowleged this a long time ago if she has been taking meds of depression/anxiety for a year and a half.
The fact that your SIL is not taking this seriously is down right child neglect and you as a family member need to do something about it. I don't want to scare you but, may-be that is what needs to happen, this young girl needs some serious help. Please what ever it takes get this child the help she needs, don't wait a minute longer. |

| Re: Anyone have experiences with Wellbutrin? My 12 year old son took Wellbutrin for a while. When he stopped we did lower the dose and spread it out over a few days. What your niece is feelings could be a result of stopping or anxiety/depression she is feeling because she doesn't have the benefit of the meds.
Here is a website I use often to check on meds. Hope it helps. http://www.drugs.com/xq/cfm/pageID_0...R/qx/index.htm
Feel free to PM me anytime. (I don't usually read this section, so I won't notice any posts here.) I think I can relate to some of the issues you are going through and it's always good to "talk" to someone who has been there.
Also, there is a section of these boards for special needs. You may find more people over there who have had experience with Wellbutrin. |
