| Need pixie dust for my little cat... Updated 4-9 Last week my little cat, Porsche, started to seem lethargic which is not like her at all. She also didn't seem to be eating much of anything and seemed to be getting much thinner. She will be 20 later this month but up until last week had been extremely active--running and jumping like a cat half her age. Friday morning I took her into our vet and she ran a bunch of tests. The tests showed that she was going into kidney failure. She advised keeping her at the office overnight so that they could hydrate her and keep a close eye on her. Saturday morning I went to pick her up and was slightly encouraged by the fact that Porsche had eaten a little bit the night before. My vet sent me home with a wide variety of foods to try as well as several medications to hopefully help her feel better. Since Saturday I've faithfully given her the medications, offered her food frequently, and tried to do everything possible. However she still is not eating. If I can't get her to eat so she can nourish herself, then I may have to consider putting her to sleep. I know she is very old but she has been so healthy up to this point. My friend's cat is 17 and has kidney failure as well and has been successfully treated for it since last fall. I'm having a hard time with this especially since I've had her since she was a kitten. Plus we just went through the death of a close family friend two weeks ago. I'm not ready to let go yet but know that I can't let her suffer either. If you could send some pixie dust her way, it would be much appreciated. Thanks. |
