Well, last week I got rear-ended. I was stopped, waiting to make a left hand turn (with my blinker on, natch!!) and the guy coming up behind me just didn't see me and ran into the back of my car. Of course I was taking my daughter to school (running late, as usual) and it was raining. My car (a Honda Odyssey mini-van) has a crumpled rear bumper and back hatch. Because of the crumple, the hatch has a hard time latching. Fast forward to Friday (the conversations with the insurance company were typical). I got my car to the body shop and made arrangements to pick up a rental car. Well, because of the holiday weekend coming up, all the mini-vans and SUV's were reserved. All they had available was a Kia Sorrento (a small SUV), so I am now lifting my DD's wheelchair in to (and out of) the back of an SUV.
Well, just when you thought things can't get any worse, (not that I'm foolish enough to ever say that OUT LOUD!!!) I got a call today from my cell phone company (Cingular Wireless) asking me if I had opened a new account on 4/9 and activiated a couple of lines. Well I didn't. Someone used my SS# and opened an account in their name (or most likely a false one!!!) I FREAKED!!! The rep then called the number and asked for the owner of the phone and the person on the other end hung-up!! So, obviously, this is not just a little mix-up of a SS# number written wrong!
So far I've talked to Equifax, The District Attorney, Social Security, The FTC and our local police dept. I've filed numerous reports and now I have to wait for credit reports from the 3 major reporting companies and PRAY that they didn't use it for anything else seeing as how the cellphone account was opened 6 WEEKS AGO!!!!!
My head is still spinning!!
Sorry about the length of this, but thanks for listening. I actually feel better after writing this all out.
I'm off to fix dinner for my DH and I.

. Sounds like you have had a little to much adventure this week.. ugh!

My DH had some FBI come to his work office a while back and was asking him all kinds of questions. After a while, they realized DH had no idea to what they were even beating around the bush about. Apparently someone tapped into his (DH's)cell phone mailbox (we didn't know if you don't have it set up, they can be tapped into and used for illegal usage... WE SURE DO NOW!!!) and was scamming elderly people for their SS check. This explained the strange phone calls we were receiving from some poor elderly man saying.. I have the money, how much more do you want from me... then after several in coming calls, a woman gets on and is screaming at me saying he's got the money where do you want it delivered. We kept telling all these people, they had the wrong phone number... In actuality, they had the right phone number because someone tapped into DH's cell phone to conduct their illegal business (if that's what you want to call it

)!!! So if any of you out there have a cell phone and don't have your mailbox set up, you better learn how to do it & get it set up! We learned the hard way.

It sounds like you're having a bad time of it at the moment.

I'm glad to hear neither you or your daughter were hurt in the accident. I really hope you get the cell phone issue sorted out really soon.

OH AMY! Identity theft is SUCH a pain in the butt!! But you should be a little more protected now that you've alerted Equifax. Here's TONS of pixies that things get straightened out soon!!!

P.S. Does CA have any kind of agency dealing with Identity theft? I think we've recently started one here in GA and if CA has one they might be able to help you out.

OMG! What terrible luck you are having. That is so scary that someone has your SS#! I guess the internet and cell phones do have draw backs! I hope things get better soon!
