| My poor mom My mom is supposed to be on her way to California later today -- to visit her brothers and join in the Disneyland celebration, among other things -- but she had to cancel her trip. She has had a "rash of unknown origin" since Tuesday, and nobody can tell her what it is. It covers most of her body -- neck to knees, and both arms. It apparently doesn't really even itch that much, but last night, she told me it was starting to feel a little like a sunburn, which makes her feel feverish, though she doesn't have a fever. No other symptoms at all, in fact.
They say they know for sure that it's not hives, and it's not likely the result of contact with something in the garden on Sunday, as that would have been a faster reaction. They kept asking her if she had any other symptoms (which she doesn't), saying that it looked like a strep rash, but that would have included sore throat and fever before the rash appeared.
So ... there are lots of "could be's" floating around ... could be viral, could be an allergic reaction, could be contagious, etc. Because of all those unknowns, and because she's really not very comfortable, she doesn't think getting on a plane sounds like much fun, and I'm just so sad for her. |

| Re: My poor mom That is so sad.
My kids get a rash similar to what you describe the last two summers. We've chalked it up to "heat rash". It doesn't inch, it's tiny red raised spots, usually on their front and back torso....but sometimes on other areas. It takes a long time to go away but doesn't seem to bother them unless they look at it.
I hope they come up with a diagnosis.
She isn't taking any antibiotics is she? DD got a rash once that the doctors realized was an allergic reaction to a -cillan drug. She's never had a problem with that drug before. Just thinking out-loud here.

Did they for sure say it wasn't hives? I have chornic hives, have had them for more than a year. The heat aggravates them.
Send mom our best, and keep us posted. |

| Re: My poor mom Hope they find out soon what is causing the rash. I always break out in a rash after being in the sun. I never burn nor tan and it's really a pain! If it severe it really gets to itching and burning. Most of the time I'm like Casper the Ghost but it's better than scratching all the time. |
