Luau or Hoop de doo???

Hi All! I need your help. I am trying to decide between the Luau and Hoop de doo . . . My friends that I am traveling with went to Hoop de doo last time they went and are anxious to go back. My DH isn't a fan to country music or hoe downs so he is hesitant. We are considering the Luau instead but can't seem to get much info on it. What do you think??? I just want to have a great time . . .

Thanks a million!
Vicki

Re: Luau or Hoop de doo???

Absolutely, with hesitation I say, "Hoop De Doo!!!" Frankly, I found the Luau to be a bit draggy, and the food was disappointing.
The Hoop De Doo is a lot of fun! I would say
that the show will be entertaining to your husband even if he's not a "fan"! It is quite funny, and I don't think anyone has ever left without having a good time.
If you are really hesitant, then try O'hana's at the Polynesian instead of the luau. The food is excellent (served family style...grilled shrimp,etc...yum!) There is a bit of a "show" with some audience involvement (like a hulahoop contest!) and if you have children in the group, they will love the "races" around the restaurant.
My advice would be...whatever you do, don't do the luau! (...sure hope the "luau gods" don't come and "get" me!!!

Re: Luau or Hoop de doo???

I've seen both the Luau and Hoop Dee Doo ... and I also vote for Hoop Dee Doo. I enjoyed the Luau just fine, but I loved Hoop Dee Doo. The cast is great, the food is good, the show is funny ... I'm definitely going to see HDD again on a future trip!

Re: Luau or Hoop de doo???

Definitely Hoop De Doo. We did both on our first trip last Sept and the Hoop De Doo was our favorite. The show at the Luau was good, but the one we are still talking about was the Hoop De Doo. We had such a great time and my face hurt from laughing so hard throughout the entire show. Also, the food was much better than at the Luau.

Re: Luau or Hoop de doo???

Without question my vote is for the Hoop Dee Doo. My husband thought he would hate it, thought that it sounded so "lame", but when we left he was still singing the songs...pretending to play the washboard. I guarantee you, you will be happy you went. The food is about as traditional American as you can get, and that chicken is always so yummy! The bread with the honey butter was my honey's favorite.

The luau was ok, but that's it. Just ok. Disney needs to revamp that dinner show a bit and make it a little more exciting and fun to participate in.

Each time we go we make a stop at the Hoop Dee Doo. It is a must-do. So, there you have it. I am absolutely 100% Hoop Dee Doo.

Re: Luau or Hoop de doo???

Hi Disney Vicki,
I haven't been to the luau. Been to the hoop de doo revue and it is a blast. It is more of a valdville type show than a hoe down . I thing your DH will like it.

Another vote for Hoop de doo here!!
We did the Luau last trip and liked it but not loved it. Food was only so-so, with a good show.
If you haven't done either try Hoop de doo first!

Re: Luau or Hoop de doo???

I have done both twice, and I liked them both, but, if I had to choose just one, I would pick the Hoop Dee Doo! If you want a fun, hand clapping, knee slapping time, the Hoop is for you! The Luau is great, but, I believe that even your DH will come on out with a big grin on his face if you choose the HOOP!

Hoop Dee Doo by a mile! We've tried both. I'm not saying the Luau is bad. We just had a lot more fun at HDD.

Re: Luau or Hoop de doo???

Here it is, im not a huge fan of country music either. But it really isnt country music, and its not really a hoe down either. Its hard to explain, its kinda like a disney version of an old west saloon show. It is also very funny!!! And.... the food was great. Look at the menu and see if you like it.

Re: Luau or Hoop de doo???

Hands down, Hoop-De-Doo. I don't like country music or anything hokey. But I loved the Hopp-De-Doo. Been threre 3, or is it 4 times now, will go back in a year or two. IT's NOT an every year thing, the show hasn't changed in years! Food is OK, but it's a hoot!
They are SUPER about accomodating special diets, allergies, etc.
