beavertails

After reading some of the posts on favorite snacks, I just have to ask, "What's a Beavertail, and where can you find it?"

Re: beavertails

From a reply from Debe in March 2001:

"A Beaver Tail is a fried dough pastry. They have a variety of toppings that you can have put on them, including apples & spices, maple syrup, maple "butter" and drizzled chocolate, butter and cinnamon/sugar, and powdered sugar. " (Cinnamon/sugar was her favorite).

They can be purchased in the Canadian pavillon at Epcot. Funny thing is, I live in Canada and have never seen them here. They must be an eastern treat.

Re: beavertails

In Ontario, we can find beaver tails at the CNE each august. But that is the only place I have ever seen them in Toronto. They are huge fried dough things. I would share with 2 or 3 others.

Re: beavertails

Here in CT we call them fried dough and in addition to what was listed previously to toppings, you can also get tomato sauce on top too. They are mostly seen around here at fairs and stuff and are always a hot seller. Over at the Boardwalk, they sell funnel cakes which are almost like fried dough...but yummier!

Re: beavertails

O.K. Thanks everyone! We call those funnel cakes here in Mo. I've also heard them called elephant ears. Whatever they're called, they sound delicious!
