Gratuity no longer included in Dining package

I've been out of the loop for so long...But then I started thinking about a trip for next year..I really miss WDW...so i started poking around and of course I'd want to have the dining plan...but I noticed on some of the sites I visit that the gratuity is no longer included with the dining plan..What happened?

They made changes to the 2008 plan. The appetizer is no longer included either. They've added a "deluxe" dining plan, which includes the appetizer, but not the gratuity 2008 Dining Plan Changes (Deb's Digest)

As Marnie said, Disney have made some pretty big changes to the Dining Plan for 2008, but don't worry - you're not really out of the loop, details on this only surfaced a few days ago.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so upset over this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The main thing I liked about the DDP was that it was ALL PAID FOR!!!! I didn't have to worry about making sure I had enough cash to last the week for food...... it was so great the way it was!!!!!!!! (well, for me, anyway!!)

Yes, with the appetizer, it was alot of food, but it was such a luxury to me......normally we have to watch our budget when we go out and with DDP it was so nice to be able to try the fancy appetizers!!

And only $1 less per day???? Shouldn't it be much more than that??? Most appetizers cost about $6 and then tip on a TS meal has to be in the area of $4 (per person, of course). So that's $10 per adult.... and we're only paying $1 less per day?????

I know many people have made comments that servers no longer felt they needed to work for tips and they received less than stellar service. So is this to remedy that??

Yep, it's a bummer. Many people have said that they may still use it, it just depends upon your family's eating habits. We're splurging this trip b/c of the DDP and all it includes. DD will be 9 in Feb, and depending upon when our next trip is, we probably won't do the new DDP, as she's a really light eater.

If you have an AP you can get the DDE card, which gives 20% off at lots of restaurants, and includes discounted alcohol if you drink.

Our next trip will be Oct 08...we haven't done any serious planning, as with moving into a new house in the next few months and welcoming a new baby in Feb, it is not a trip that is set in stone. We were debating between DL and another trip to WDW...but now it seems as if we will probably not be able to afford DL. (WDW is just so much more economical).

I think we will have to re-evaluate the DDP for this next trip.....for me it was always a given...no question...we always did DDP, but now, I don't know.......

OK, silly question...Since this is an 08 adjustment to the dinning plan, our trip next month on the dinning plan will pay for tips, right?

Packages for 2007 are not affected by this change.
