WHat makes Jiko special? We have eaten at Boma and liked it alot. IS Jiko better (enough to use 2 TS?) or should we just skip it? Is there something special abou the experience (like a show?)
THanks!

Oh, Jiko is a wonderful restaurant, in my opinion. The food is wonderful and flavorful and definitely higher end. The filet over mac and cheese is lip-smacking, plate licking amazing. My son is a huge fan of the ostrich appetizer and scallops main, my husband adores the short ribs. If you have enjoyed Boma, I think you will love Jiko. While I am not a drinker, I understand they have a fabulous list of South African wines.

If any WDW restaurant is "worth" 2 credits, it's Jiko.
If you want to add up the cost of what you would order at Jiko and compare it to what it would cost at two nice 1-credit dinners, it probably would not be worth it in terms of dollars. But if you want a delicious dinner in a more relaxed and sophisticated atmosphere, Jiko is well worth a try. We LOVED it on our last trip. Check out the reviews in the Passporter book or on All-Ears, and you will find it's better rated than anything except Victoria & Alberts.
Only you can decide if it is really worth it. Good luck in making up your mind!

Boma is a buffet, and -- while yummy -- is not a "fine dining" experience. The cost for an adult's buffet meal is $27.
Just Jiko's average entree costs $36 -- thus, prompting the use of two credits to cover the entire meal (which includes a non-alcoholic drink and a dessert, which can be pricey there.) Jiko is definitely fine dining, with exceptional wines, great service and absolutely terrific food. (I know some people have complained that the food quality has diminished since their famous chef moved on to another restaurant, but I was there after she left and found the food to be simply scrumptious!)

We love Boma and it is one of our favorite places to dine. That being said, it is a buffet, and all food is presented to serve the masses. While it is wonderful, it is far from fine dining.
Jiko is amazing and like the CG, IMHO, worth the two credits. There is no show or entertainment, but Jiko doesn't need it. The food IS the star. Add incredible food to stellar service and some wonderful South Africian wines, Jiko is nothing short of an experience to be enjoyed and savored.

I totally agree, Nala! Well said!!
It's truly one of our favorite places in WDW. Every experience has been memorable at Jiko. It's worth the two credit expense.
Jiko was fine for an adult or a child with an adventurous palette. Not so much for one who isn't into new flavors/textures. That said, the one night I took DDs, the service STUNK. I mean, really dreadful. I've had better service at Cracker Barrel on 192. The server was very full of himself and did not like it one bit when I asked for something different for then-9yo DD (and I paid OOP for the extra food), so you'd think it wouldn't be that big of a deal. His gratuity was commensurate with his service and the manager was informed. I really am easy to please, just keep my glass from running empty and check back once in awhile to make sure things are OK (I even tried waving him down and wound up having to leave my table to go to the front to ask for him). It really spoiled the experience for me and makes me sad as I'd been looking forward to it for 5 years.
graygables, that does sound like a very unpleasant dinner experience. I wish I could remember what DH and I had when we went on our last trip but I do remember that we ranked that as one of our favorite fine dining meals of the trip. We also had some totally fabulous wine there.
Jiko is a very different dining experience to Boma. It's a la carte, rather than buffet and there's some superb food there and great service. I say give it a go. If you love Boma, chances are you'll like Jiko as well.

If you really enjoy fine food, you'll love Jiko. I had a spicy shrimp dish and it was incredible. The ostrich appetizer was also delicious. My only suggestion would be that if you are dining as a couple, request a table near the window because many couples get seated in a long row very close together.
