My boyfriend and I are going to Walt Disney World in October. We are going the week after our second anniversary, and it will be our first time dining at Victoria and Albert's. I just want to clarify: men are required to wear both jacket and tie?
Also, since same-sex marriage is now legal in our home state of New York, it seems to me that V&A would be the ideal setting to propose. I know I can't do our ADR until July, but is there someone at the restaurant I can contact to help me make the proposal very special?

Absolutely plan on wearing a jacket and tie! - for that reason, we chose not to have our V&A dinner on arrival night, just in case the airline lost our luggage, leaving us without formal wear!
I think V&A is a great place to propose! Mention it when you make your reservation and they may add some sort of recognition or memento (you will come home with a personalized menu).
Have a great meal, a great trip and a happy marriage!
A tie is not required, although you'll find plenty of guys wearing one. As to help with your proposal, that should be possible. You'll be able to discuss that when you make your reservation, and they'll tell you who you can contact.

What's the difference at Victoria & Albert's between the main room, the Queen Victoria room and the Chef's table, both in terms of the experience and the price?

The Chef's Table (which I've yet to do) is focused on the kitchen and interaction with the chef and his staff. If you love Food Channel, that's the way to go. I've never seen someone who's regretted paying the higher price. But it may be harder to focus on your romantic intent. Queen Victoria Room is where Jennifer and I held our wedding dinner. It's now being offered as a special dining experience - a chance to offer the Chef's Table menu (which is more elaborate than the regular dinner menu) to more people. For your romantic evening, that's probably a better bet than the Chef's Table. It's a quiet room adjacent to the main dining room. You'll be able to hear the harpist, rather than the sounds of the kitchen. Whether you pop for the extra bucks for Chef's Table/Queen Victoria Room, or "just" do the "regular" dinner, it'll be a wonderful experience. I'm sure you want to make the evening extra-special, but unless you're used to eating at the best French restaurants in NY... the regular V&A's experience is already extra-special. The money you spend for the special dinners could be applied to wine flights for each of you, and after all that wine, you'll be feeling very, very special.

We are both foodies, both love to cook, and we do indeed tend to dine at high-end New York restaurants... but I think I will reserve the CT for a future trip and just book the main dining room this time.

Even in the main dining room you won't be elbow-to-elbow with your neighbors... I think you will enjoy it for your first experience; perhaps you can enjoy the Chef's Table for an anniversary celebration sometime?
What a wonderful place to propose - I cannot think of anymore romantic restaurant on Disney property to do that. You will have the most amazing meal there and I'm sure they'll be able to help with the proposal. Be sure to let us know what happens!
My DB proposed to DSIL there in 2009 and it was absolutely the best proposal. Their server took photos with their camera the whole time and did an excellent job. Her ring was brought out in a special made cinderella fondant slipper on a beautiful serving plate that said "Happily Ever After." They went above and beyond to help with their proposal and the photos were excellent gifts for family afterwards.

If you can swing Queen Victoria's Room, I'm going to very gently nudge you in that direction. DH and I splurged when we went, and I have to say, it was the best experience ever. There are (were) only 4 tables in the room, and on the night we were there, it was one other couple, and us. It was a very intimate setting, and I think it would be PERFECT for your proposal. With that said, you really can't go wrong with the dining room either. We tried for the Chef's table (it's like getting the golden ticket) but they were booked already. We were not in the least dissapointed with the QV room!!
We've previously sat in the Victoria Room, before it was designated as a special seating with the added menu, as well as having dinner in the main dining room. As Tables in Wonderland (TIW) members, we get the 20% discount on the main dining room and don't receive it for either the Victoria Room or the Chef's Table. That discount adds up to a pretty penny, and (as always) the food and service are fabulous in the main dining room.
We have done the Queen Victoria Room on several occasions and it is absolutely the most romantic of the three options. The staff are fantastic and will help you to make it a special evening.
When you call to make your reservation let them know what you are planning. On one of our special occasions, we were given the entire room. When the lamb course came they filled the entire room with a mist from dry ice.....it was pretty awesome. Just wish I had brought my camera to that particular meal.
If you can swing Queen Victoria's Room, I'm going to very gently nudge you in that direction.
My only hesitation in doing QVR is the quantity of food. I'm a gastric bypass patient - I'm five years post-op, so I can manage normal amounts of food, but it sounds like the REGULAR dining room at V&A is a lot of food, and QVR is even more. I fear I won't be able to do much more than taste things by the end of the meal - and it's a lot of money to be sending food back uneaten.

The proposal would be great in the QV room-please mention the proposal and any suggestions they can offer for the event[flowers/cake/ring presentaion/etc].
Please take a camera and ask the staff to take pics of the evening and moments.
Only because of the bypass would I say that I agree that it might be more food than you would be comfortable with. While in neither the main room nor the QV room do you receive "piles" of food, there are a lot of courses. The servings are adjusted down so they are much smaller. I jokingly use the example of the Amuse Bouche which is often a single solitary shrimp. But it tastes GREAT.
You will enjoy the main dining room. The food that is available in the two rooms is pretty much the same with only minor differences. V&A makes everything very personal for you so you can't go wrong. I hope you enjoy.
