Hi Everyone~
I would like to try Kona Cafe but my DS has severe food allergies. Disney World is always sooo awsome with them but I am looking for anyone who has had experience with Kona and allergies? We did 'Ohana and they were good but I have not been to Kona in years and I am craving some tonga toast TIA!

I would like to try Kona Cafe but my DS has severe food allergies. Disney World is always sooo awsome with them but I am looking for anyone who has had experience with Kona and allergies? We did 'Ohana and they were good but I have not been to Kona in years and I am craving some tonga toast TIA!
My daughter and I both have food allergies, and I have never had an issue at Kona....the chef was great and really made sure everything was safe. We also went their for breakfast.
Like all restaurants at Disney, I had a great experience at Kona in Dec 2011, and ate safely and deliciously!
My need to be gluten-free was listed on our ADRs. We mentioned it at check-in, which signalled a chef to come out and speak with me. He had his little allergy notebook and worked with me to find a safe choice. Then he prepared it himself and brought it out with the rest of my friends' food.
So far we have only had one problem in Disney and it was not a huge one but it made me upset. We had breakfast at CRT and they made my son a frozen van's free waffle but they some how cross contaminated and he broke out in hives! The chef came out when I asked to speak to manager and he was not sure where it was heated and would not say if it was on equipment shared with dairy or egg?? The manager offered to call for medical but I gave him benadryl. Luckily it was only minor and not an anaphylactic reaction which would have required the Epi pen! Other than that we go 3x's a year and he has eaten without a problem.
I just wanted some reviews on Kona before I booked because we usually eat at the same places each trip and this one is new with the food allergies. Thanks
Usually, the chef "babysits" an allergy meal as it travels through the kitchen. Perhaps they got distracted, but it's a shame your child had to suffer the consequences.
Hope better things for you on your upcoming trip!

At Biergarten the chef walked the line with a check list of common allergens. I had a nap attack and racing pulse but thankfully it was not wheat but probably was soy. Chef Amy at Cinderella Castle talked with me and went over everything in detail. The chef at Garden Grille tried his best but could not provide me with salad dressing and put eggs on the salad, egads. The meal was excellent and I did ok. SUPPOSED TO is not always the case. You have to know the products and be careful. If the chef or staff offer you something and you are not sure then state your concerns. The more allergies you have the less food you can eat. At Flame tree the only soy and wheat free food was produce and dry ribs,

Disneyland was fun with flag retreat and pickles. I have a home here, thank you. GAC is NOT a "front of the line pass".
She is gone but keeping signature. Laundry is getting done. My purpose in life is to help poor people in FL. Farewell, will miss you.
