We have done both, but have done Mama Melrose twice! Our pick would be Mama Melrose. And, if you are on the Dining Plan, you get an appetizer with your meal for the Fantasmic! Dining Package that is not typically included on the basic dining plan. Win/Win!

Here's our review: Williams Family: Benefits of the Fantasmic Dining Package at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Have a magical trip!

I had asked this same question at one point, and was told to go with Mama Melrose. We did ADR for the Fantasmic package with Mama Melrose as well. I have never eaten at either restaurant before, but was told that H&V was not very good.

I could not recommend Hollywood and Vine. When we visited, the food was poor, the service was poor, and you had to use the bathrooms in 50's Prime Time, so the lines were long. the dessert buffet consisted of Key Lime Tarts, Chocolate Chip Cookies, and soft serve ice cream. The ice cream area was a complete mess the entire time we were there and no one bothered to clean it. The bread on the buffet wasn't cut all the way through, so you couldn't just take one slice, you had to take 4-5 slices. Everything was oversalted and overcooked. My DS, who will eat just about anything even had a hard time finding enough for a meal. Mama Melrose is a superior option by far.

I would definitely go with Mama Melrose--the food is great and the atmosphere is good as well--if you have kids with you ask if they can write their names on the wall!

Same here on our last trip we had a similar experience. We are definitely doing Mama Melrose on our next trip for Fantasmic.

I have to agree with this. I went there once and that's about all I could handle. The place was absolutely filthy. There was food all over the carpet! I suspect because of the very young crowd they draw. The food was luke warm and just plain bad....and I'm pretty easy to please at a buffet. Tasted like they opened a lot of cans at this place, and the vibe was the only place that didn't feel like a Disney restaurant to me.

We have eaten at both and we had a good experience at H&V. It wasn't that bad...and if you have younger kids who are "picky" eaters, the buffet will have more selections. I liked Mama Melrose's but my husband did not care for it. But I feel that the advanced seating is worth it for Fantasmic. We have done it with and without and will never wait in line for seating again. We will always do the dinner package. I felt Hollywood and Vine was fine and wouldn't hesitate to eat there again. Agree on the bathrooms though...long lines.

H&V is honstly one of the worst places I have ever eaten! I love spices from all over the world and I believe they so drowned the food in horrible spices so as to cover the awful taste. Unless things have changed since 2008 I would not go there!

My family adores Mama Melrose's, however, we have older children. If you have younger children, the Hollywood and Vine is more suited with Playhouse Disney characters. It is buffet style and the children are encouraged to get up and help themselves to dessert and the like. Mama Melrose's is by no means formal, but it lacks the "childhood" aspect.

Hope that helps. Enjoy your trip!
