Using waiter [table] service vouchers for counter [service] meals

It may sound a daft question but can I substitute a waiter service meal for a counter service meal. This will be our first trip with a DDP and I can't imagine us having a waiter service meals every day. Obviously we will use them rather than waste them but just wondering

I personally have never tried to substitute a table service meal with a counter service meal. I do know that table service meals and counter service meals are tracked separately, so there is a definite distinction.

If you were able to use a TS credit on a CS meal, you sort of cheat yourself out of value. The DDP is what - $52ish a day? If you are eating 2 CS meals for $10ish each and a snack for $4, you just spent $24. You'd be ahead to pay OOP for your meals. JMHO.

It's my understanding that they don't allow it on a regular basis. I've only heard of it during Free Dining promos when the restaurants were so swamped that folks couldn't get into TS places even if they wanted to.

You may want to look into the QS dining plan, and paying OOP for an occasional TS meal.

I know on our last trip we had several CS meals left and I was just going to just let them go. I was talking about it with my husband and a resort manager overheard us and he suggested we go to the food court and exchange each one for 3 snacks. Needless to say we left with a ton of rice crispy mickey heads and juices. This was at POFQ and I pretty sure it was a common thing because the girl at the resister did not question us when I told her what the manager had suggested we do. So maybe if you ask they will let you switch!

We were there in Jan of this year, and I tried to see if I could do this too (CS to snacks) on our last day, but was told no by three different CMs (one being a guest services manager). They said that they are really cracking down on that (maybe because free dining is offered so often?) this year. I'm not sure about converting TS to CS, but I wouldn't count on it and also it would be a big waste of money.

If you end up with table service meal credits, you can use them for counter service meals if those have all been used up. We used three CS and one TS meal credit on our last day once for breakfast at All Star Music food court for our family of four.

Another option is to go to a TS place with plated meals on a menu (not buffets or family style) and split meals. It's less food, so you won't be stuffed, but still use of your TS credits.

If you are paying for the dining plan then it is a waste of good money. You are losing from $15 to $20 per adult meal. You need to go to online menus and decide on what you want to eat and what dining plan is best for you,

On a case by case approach the WDW staff will go DOWN but never UP. They will allow a Counter Service meal for a table service credit. They will allow several snacks to be purchased with a counter service credit. If this happens varies from place to place and may not happen, try again later. Usually getting snacks with counter service only happens on the last day of the stay. What snacks varies as does quantitiy,

I can't say for certain, but it seems likely you could use a TS for a CS if you have no CS credits left. As others have said, it's not the most effective use of your credits, if that is your aim.

Also, to chime in re: CS-->Snack credit conversions: this was not allowed when we were there in January 2012. We had lost track of our credits and had 4 CS credits at check out. We could have forfeited them, bought another family a meal, or take 4 CS meals to go. This was entirely our fault, of course, but I had really hoped they'd let us get snacks instead.

On the deluxe dining plan you can use it for CS meals or table service meals. It is the only plan you can without hassle.

Thanks for all the replies, they are useful. We got the DDP free so although it may seem a waste of money, its not cost us anything in the first place. I just no that we wont use a TS voucher every day for 2 weeks

How about a TS breakfast or lunch instead of dinner? It would just make it so much more worth your money to use all of your TS credits. Or maybe a couple signature TS meals worth 2 credits! Even though you are getting free dining, you are paying top rates for your room. If you had booked without the free dining and just ate OOP, and booked room only you might have qualified for a room only discount. Just something to think about, although I love free dining, I don't necessarily see it as saving that much money because without it I probably would never had paid that much for the room. In the end, it's just a good idea to use all of your credits and get your money's worth! Have an awesome trip!

I agree. If you really don't think you'll use all the TS credits, another type of booking with a room only discount would be the way to go. The "free" DDP doesn't really cost anything out of pocket, but does cost you another discount where you could be saving $$ off of your room.

I've never come acroos making a saving on a room? I think maybe booking from the UK as a package you don't get the same flexibility as you Americans can. We book the whole lot, flights, hotel tickets and get DDP thrown in for no extra.
BUT thank you for the beakfast idea, like that!

I would book some table service meals that take two credits, that will help use up your ts credits.

Cinderellás Castle
California Grill
Flying Fish
Brown Derby

just to name a few...
