Thumbs up Raw Diet, menu changes, review - Dolphin Resort

I was hungry and Raglan Road was closed so in desperation I called Swan and they got me in touch with Picabu. They have dinner until 1 am. People ask where to get grass fed beef products, organic food, and other healthy foods so by accident I found a small spot with special food.

Picabu
Location: Level 1 follow signs as it is a maze down there and where they hide bluezoo, Sweet Treats, The Fountain, and Shula's along with the two restaurant lounges and Picabu.

Hours: Convenience store and what is on the serving line shelves and fridges such as individual cereal, premade sandwiches and salads, and soda pop are available 24 hours a day.
Breakfast starts at 6 am and ends at 11:30 am and noon on sunday
Lunch starts at 11:30 am and noon on sundays while ending at 1 am daily.

Seating/lighting/theme: This is one funky place with eclectic tropical beach motif. There are Komopeli like figures on the salt and pepper holder as well as the walls. The lighting is bright enough and there are banquets with slide out tables along with armless wooden chairs. There is carpeting but low pile. There was a nook of quiet ladies chatting and another nook with a herd of kids that was loud. I like nooks as in this case the ladies were far from the noise. There is plenty of room for moving around with wheels.

WARNING: I had two cooks and a manager trying to feed me. One swore the lasagna was gluten free. One thought the pot roast was safe. One old line worker thought everything has soy and wheat in it. I ate a chocolate bar to get sugars up. They made me a delicious cheeseburger that was one of the best I ever had. They gave me delicious creamy good mashed potatoes that were pretty good.
However, this was made just for me and I would not feel comfortable until I get used to the place or come earlier in the day.

Note: Sandwiches are made and packaged so at after hours time that is what you are getting. You cannot get a sandwich on gluten free bread for example or a pile of chicken salad without the bread, There are no ingredient labels that I could see and there was containers of liquid that might have been cranberry sauce, not testing that stuff. There was unidentified brown stuff that looked like fudge.

There is no printed menus and just a blackboard that is so crammed with stuff that other stuff is lost in there. This place needs Irvine or Ramsey to come in and organize this mess. This place has potential and is a great place but they need lot of help.

Allergen Alert: Stewarts Soybean Oil Soda Pop as I call it and there is Half Naked Popcorn brand which sometimes just says hydrogenated oil but not the type of oil. READ YOUR LABELS as some soda pop may contain corn, wheat, or soy. Labels may say a product is vegan or organic but it can still contain allergens or other unwanted ingredients.

Raw Diet: These two items are available at Picabu in the convenience store section.
Hail Merry macaroons and cookies? These are in a fridge next to the register.
Hail Merry | Home page
Go Raw is the other brand that sells raw food snacks. The Super Cookies are on the back wall of the convenience store area.
Goraw - Real Live Food
The next post is a good suggestion as those who really want to stick to a raw diet or organic diet can rent a villa and go shopping at Whole Foods Market. Even so the offerings may not be the same as other stores.

Onsite made packaged goods: As you walk the buffet line you find these on your right. The only way to know what some things are is by asking a CM who might guess. There are no nutrition labels or ingredients just type of food in most cases and possibly a date code. The fudge had no date code or label.

Sandwiches:
roast beef with pickle wedge, lettuce and tomato
turkey swiss with pickle wedge, lettuce and tomato
ham and cheese with pickle wedge, lettuce and tomato
chicken salad sandwich pickle wedge, lettuce and tomato
tuna wrap and for got the frou froum what was on it?

Next to the drinks are plastic wrapped donuts, muffins, and danishes that are made on site. With the sandwiches are fruit salad aka bowl of fruit, tossed salad, and chicken ceasar salad. There are cakes and pies nicely wrapped and waiting along the line, these are onsite made.

Commercially made products: They are everywhere. Walk down the line and there are fruit and cereal, over there are power drinks and soybean oil soda pop, over there is milk, and over there is nutella, and wait over there is ice cream, egads this is a fun treasure hunt, lol. Now for the list, hold on tight, amazing what a little spot can hold.

Drinks: Muscle Milk, Silk soy milk in vanilla and chocolate, Borden quart of milk, Borden milk regular and fat-free, Borden milk 1% and 2%, Borden chocolate milk, V8, big container of Mott's apple juice, Tropicana orange juice, small apple juice, Vita Coco coconut water (may contain up to 1% apple or pear juice), 5 hour energy, energy drinks such as Red Bull, Powerade, Fuze, Frusion Smoothies, soda pop, bottled water, Belly Washers, Arizona Tea, and diet tea with the Geisha on it.
They have machines that dispense hot cocoa, coffee, soda pop, etc.

Adult Drinks: common beers, Mondavi Wine
Tea Bags: Lipton and they carry a brand I did not get the name of. That brand has many varieties including sweet camomile, black currant, organic chai, best organic chai green, spring jasmine tea, and decaf

Other Stuff: They have Edy's, Ben and Jerry's, Dibs, novelties, and Skinny Cow ice cream. There are Hall's cough drops, a few medical items, a few baby items and food, and Altoids for your breath. They have Hershey's chocolate bars with almonds, a wide variety of candy, Chuckles candy, Pez candy, cotton candy and Black & Green's organic chocolates. I found Yoplait 98% fat-free yogurt, oranges, bananas, apples, nutella individual packets, Smucker's Uncrustables, Ken's individual SOYBEAN OIL dressings, oatmeal packets, and boxes of Froot Loops. In the back is the Cliff bars, vegan Lara Bars, and raw diet products. Triscuits, Snackwells, Oreos, Lance cracker snack packs, Blue Diamond Almonds, and Planters nuts. OH MY so much stuff in a tiny space. There was more.

TOURIST TRAP TREATS
Junior Chocolate Alligator | Anastasia Confections
They have the choco-o-gator as well as their famous chocolate covered coconut patties including key lime pie flavor. This is a family owed and run business in Orlando. Now you can get your souvenirs right here.

-----------
This was the best burger in a long time and overall I think it could be a great place to eat. Late night you can get sandwiches, snacks, and cereal. It is better than nothing to eat. They are open until 1 with pizza, burgers, and lasagna. YES!! There are better place to eat and ones I would trust more to make dinner HOWEVER when you or your kids are hungry at 11 pm there are few places open near by without driving to Perkins or Shoneys or Denny's so you feed them good food. The food is as good as Denny's and fills up your belly. I will be back later to see how they are doing and try to help them get more in line with allergen knowledge. If you are slinging the hash at midnight when the chef is sleeping at home then you better have a book or something to let staff know what is safe. Not good for business to have people in the toilet or hospital. I have faith in this place and they have some renown chefs near by.

Something came up and will be back
NOT DONE
nap attack literally dozing off

I plan on drinking a glass of vitamineral green every morning before breakfast while I'm at Disney World. I also plan on bringing a nice big jar of raw honey from the vitamin shoppe and putting that on whatever...also, in case someone's stomach gets a little upset...having them take some spoonfuls of raw honey. And hopefully goto whole foods and buy some snacks like some hummus and possibly alot of those Annie's burritos.

We ate at Picabu last year. The food itself was fine, but I also found the listings of what was available confusing, plus some of the items were quite pricey ($2.50 for a 12 oz. bottle of root beer). And they added a "service charge" to the bill, even though we carried our own trays.

Some of the food is prepacked, either commercially or made there, and some is assembled to order (wraps, salads, etc.). I had a good tuna wrap with small salad. They told us they would bring my son's chicken strips out; after 15 minutes of waiting, one of the ladies cleaning tables asked about our food. When she found out how much time had passed, she went back to the kitchen and fetched his plate. (Left her a nice tip!)

Fun atmosphere; good enough although not cheap food; but although the staff members were all pleasant, it did not seem to be a very organized place. It's good to know that they may be able to serve folks with special dietary needs, but I would check and double check, especially if we are talking allergy here. The eateries in the Swan & Dolphin are not run by Disney.

The Picabu review and information was very long so as not to get confused I continue my review. Thank you for your input as it is very informative.

Shula's menu is up to date but they hide the kid menu.

Picabu no longer serves collard greens.

Lobby Lounge
They serve pastries for breakfast 6 am to 11 am
They open the lounge as a bar from 3 pm to midnight, last call is 11:45 pm
This is located in the lobby floor off the lobby. They have comfortable plopping areas across the path with stuffed chairs.

Sweet Treats (next to The Fountain on level 1)
Cakes, Pies, and Cookies are not on their menu.

Wonderful information! We stayed at the Swan for two nights last year. Unfortunately, my husband was not up to big meals, so we did not get to do the Sunday character breakfast we had planned on, nor did we get to try any of the other major eateries. However, we usea a $5 coupon that we received for declining having our room serviced and applied it to a breakfast at the lobby coffee bar. Considering where we were, it was reasonably priced after the coupon: two good ham and cheese croissants, two coffees, one yogurt, one juice, one cereal, one milk. About $27 before the coupon.

We also had a discount coupon from our TA for several restaurants at S&D. We chose The Fountain. My husband tried the gyro wrap, my son had a cheeseburger (huge) and I had falafal with salad. Wrap was okay, nothing special; my falalfal was the best I've ever eaten--crispy outside, soft inside, gently flavored with garlic. The portion was rather small, however, for $11. We mistakenly ordered extra fries and ended up with three huge portions. They were good but too many to finish.

We also got sodas and desserts: one banana split, one hot fudge sundae, and one slice of coconut pie. My husband was thrilled with the split, our son could not finish all his ice cream (and he's a big eater), and I was surprised by the coconut pie. It was not fluffy but rather like a Thai custard, not much to look at, but delicious. Our server said they make their pies fresh right there--her favorite was banana cream. The total bill came to just over $85, but we had a $25 coupon, so we felt that it was an okay value for good service and pretty decent food. We would definitely recommend The Fountain for ice cream and desserts. One bargain I saw in the bakery case: four large cookies for $5--great for a family.
