We booked the DDP and it notes that you can get a refillable mug at the resort. How do you go about redeeming that? Is it separate or does is cost a 'snack' credit? Just want to know what we're doing ahead of time.
Just pick it up at the designated area, usually a food court, as Belle said. It's part of all the dining plans now--actually, my husband's favorite part, as he can really put away the Diet Coke. They will swipe your KTTW card (or tap your wristband) and give you a receipt that shows you have redeemed that part of your dining plan. You don't have to be getting a meal or snack at that time to pick up and use your mugs. It's the very first thing we do after check-in--right before going out to admire the pool and the palm trees.

I laughed at this because I am the same way. I've purchased a mug on every trip because of my Diet Coke consumption. My DMom too!
We always pick up the mugs but never use them on vacation. I think it's cause I feel like I can't wash them properly in the room nor do I want to carry them around all day.
We started getting the mugs back on our first CB trips, I remember they would have them in the rooms at that time and you could purchase them for like $5 the first time. Each year the price would go up. I have lots and lots of cups. Great for your morning coffee, and soda, and yum the ice tea. We take them back to the room I wouldnt want to carry it each day either.

Love the Magic of Disney Thanks Dad for our first 5 trips.
My DH and I have done the mugs before before we had kids and same thing, we just use them around the hotel. I still say they're worth it though, especially since they are included in the DDP.
I've often trotted to the food court to refill my mug for no reason but that I'm going to be strolling around the resort, its grounds or both and want something to sip on as I go.
We only use ours around the resort, since they can't be refilled anywhere but at your resort's food court anyway, so no point taking them with you unless you do like some and refill them with water when out and about.
Btw, there are only about three different handle and lid colors, so if you want to make sure each person knows which is his or hers, you might want to pick up some Disney stickers to apply if some family members have the same color.

The mug is included in the cost of your Dining Plan; the Cast Member checking you in at your resort's desk can point you to the right place to pick yours up.
Remember that it's only refillable for free, within your own resort - not the parks, nor the waterparks,
It's very, very useful if you plan to spend time by the pool (e.g., watching over your kids, or just catching some sun). Not so much, if you plan to be out and about seeing the sights from sunrise to sunset.
But regardless of how much you use it at Disney ... it makes a nice souvenir to take home with you.

We did use our mugs on our last trip. My best friend is an avid coffee drinker, so she would regularly fill up each morning and even in the evenings after we hit the parks.
Best part about the mugs? I can still enjoy a little bit of Disney every day in my car or at work! They are great for the kids to put their hot chocolate in and I don't have to worry about spills on my carpet!
