Hoop-De-Doo Transportation

Only 10 days and counting til our first family WDW trip! DH is crunching the time schedules and we were wondering about the best way to get to and from Fort Wilderness from the Pop Century. Already heard that we have to leave a lot of time to get there. Is it really like an hour and a half travel time? Is it worth taking a taxi, especially going back, as our little one will probably be on less than fumes by that time? Does anybody have a guess as to how much/how long it would take? We are trying to make a tentative plan but know all about the options in case we need them. Any advice appreciated.

Re: Hoop-De-Doo Transportation

I have never actually traveled to WL but was doing some checking myself for this summer when I go. What I found was that from the Pop you can take the bus to MK, but from there head to the water b/c the boats will take you to WL. You will travel the same way back. I know the bus system this past June w/ Pop was really good and there were never long waits, not sure about the boat. I would give at least an hour. It might not take that long but better safe than sorry. Hope this helps.

Re: Hoop-De-Doo Transportation

Fort Wilderness is really easy to get to from the Magic Kingdom. You can take a launch right from the entrance of the MK to the FW Campground. So, it might make sense to go to FW on a MK day.

Otherwise, you would need to take a bus from PC to any of the parks or DTD and transfer to a FW bus. Most FW buses will drop you at the Outpost (main entrance) of FW. Then, you would take an internal FW bus to wherever you want to go in FW. The buses can be "no fun" at the end of the day with little kids.

Re: Hoop-De-Doo Transportation

Hi Melissa,

Welcome to the boards. The nicest way to get there is by taking the bus to MK then the boat to FW. It should not take you more than an hour depending on if you have to wait for the bus and boat. If MK is still open after the show you might do the route in reverse. I am not sure where you would get a cab at FW but it might be best if you do have tired kids. Hoop-De-Do is very rucous so your kids might be wide awake at that time too.

Happy Planning, boBšoš

Re: Hoop-De-Doo Transportation

It took Julie and I about 40 minutes to get from POFQ to FW and Trail's End for breakfast on our last trip. Now, this was at park open and such, but the idea is there.

I wouldn't get a cab, but then again, I'm cheap and the trip is fairly relaxing...

Re: Hoop-De-Doo Transportation

On the way back from Hoop-De-Doo, head back to the bus stop. They had (in September anyways) direct buses back to the hotels. Check with the cast members at the show. The ones in the hotels do not always know the best way.

Re: Hoop-De-Doo Transportation

I have Hoop scheduled for 2/5. We will be in MK already that night, so we are just going to take the boat over to FW. I hear it drops you off pretty close to Hoop, is that true? We are going to PI after so we will just take the direct bus there afterward. If you are worried about your little one, than I would take the cab. I hear it is only a couple of bucks and it will save you a lot of time.

The boat dock is a very short distance (about a five minute walk or so) from the Hoop Dee Doo Review at Pioneer Hall in Fort Wilderness.
