Many Favorites GONE from DDP in 2007!

Hi - I haven't been on the boards for a few months but saw a message on another board this morning announcing the change in DDP for 2007, so I thought you all should have the info asap! Since I had both the 2006 and 07 DDP lists handy, I made a listing for you of all the restaurants currently on the DDP that will NOT be on next year's plan. Most noticible are all the sit down restaurants around the World Showcase (say it ain't so!) at Epcot and all restaurants at DTD with the exception of Captain Jack's. Here is the complete list of those not on the 07 plan:

Boardwalk Inn & Villas
Belle Vue Room
Big River Grille

Yacht & Beach Club
Ale & Compass

Downtown Disney
Cookes of Dublin
Earl of Sandwich
Food Quest
Missing Link Sausage Co.
Planet Hollywood
Raglan Road
Wolfgang Pucks - both Express and Cafe

Magic Kingdom
Aunt Polly's Dockside

Epcot
Boulagerie Patisserie
Cantina de san Angel
Le Chefs de France
L'originale Alfredo di Roma Ristorante
Lotus Blossom
Misukoshi Teppanyaki Dining Room
Nine Dragons
San Angel Inn
Tangerine Cafe
Tempura Kiku
Yakitori House

These are the total changes. I doubt whether I would buy the plan in 07 now, as I have used it in 05 and 06 to great advantage, but now Epcot's table service is almost entirely gone, with the exception of a few like Le Cellier - if we think that's hard to get now, wait until next year when it's one of about 3 sit down's left in Epcot on the plan. It will become as coveted at CRT. It's a shame.

Re: Many Favorites GONE from DDP in 2007!

I'm going to throw out a huge caution flag here.

This list is based on comparing the new 2007 dining plan brochure (available as as PDF download) to the current 2006 dining plan. It is NOT based on Disney saying, "This is the list of restaurants that will not be participating."

There was similar "excitement" last year when the preliminary list of 2006 restaurants was released. A bunch of restaurants seemed to have been "dropped." As it turned out, reality was very different. If my memory serves correctly, many of these same restaurants were on the "out" list last year, too.

Note that nearly every restaurant "dropped" is not managed directly by Disney. In fact, it's a pretty good list of every restaurant that isn't Disney-managed. When the list is that comprehensive, it suggests something else to me. Simply, it's early August, the brochure was prepared even earlier (as it undoubtedly had to go through various layers of management approval before it could be released), and as a result, all these independently-run restaurants simply hadn't been in a position to say "Yes, we're in," or "No, we're out" before the brochure was prepared. One thing Disney cannot do is commit a restaurant to participation before it has agreed to participate. "See here, it's right on this list you printed!" is not something Disney ever wants to hear from an irate guest. They'll err on the side of caution every time. "Under-promise, over-deliver."

I'm fairly confident that as the new year approaches, the brochure will be updated, with more and more restaurants being added.

For all I know, Disney is using this list as leverage to get those restaurants to sign up again.

Thanks Dave that makes a lot more sense, than all of these restaurants dropping out. This will be my first year using the plan and will hope to love it as much as most do. Well thanks for the advice.

This is part of why I love these boards so much. A little more caution and a lot less hysteria then others.

Thanks for the link.

I'm holding out adding the DP on our Feb 07 vacation until I see if these will be added back.

Re: Many Favorites GONE from DDP in 2007!

it's been mildly reported, and confirmed by multiple CMs that most, if not all, of the non-listed restaurants are definitely coming back.

it's even been suggested that Rainforest Cafe is joining the plan..

just an fyi. something to watch out for.

the online brochure has not been updated yet
