Glow Cubes

This may have been asked a dozen or so times in the past BUT.......what the heck are "Glow Cubes"? What do they cost? Where can a guest purchase one of these if they can be bought?

They look like fake square ice cubes that light up, hence "glow". They are available with certain drinks at some restaurants (not all) and caught a few bucks extra!

We found ours in a souvenir sippy cup at the Spectro Magic Parade in the Magic Kingdom. The kids thought they were really neat. However, we had a coke, the glow effect would have been better in a Sprite. I think the cup with cubes and the drink was around $8. The cubes still work!

Several of the restaurants have a "glowtini" and they come with a blue glowing cube.

I've seen some of the adult beverages with glowcubes in the 50's Prime Time (Studios), San Angel Inn (Mexico-Epcot), and I think they were also in the adult and kid drinks at the Sci Fi.

Maybe someone has a more comprehensive list....

I saw them for sale at the airport gift shop - 2 Mickey glow cubes for $6.00 - I thought this was cheap for Disney. I don't remember seeing these for sale in the parks.

They must be powered by batteries but are they replaceable? Otherwise, what is the purpose?

I don't think have batteries that can be changed. They do turn off and on. Ours lasted a couple of years before not working. But we only used them a couple of times a year.

These are not unique to WDW. You can find them in restaurants and clubs all over, and you can buy them on the internet, too. There are several different brands, and they can be found in solid colors, multicolor, steady on, and flashing.

We love to collect them! We reuse them at slumber parties and birthday parties where they are an absolute hit!
We had a blue cube in June that stayed on for several days, so the batteries really last!

When I was a kid, my mom used to buy them at home and then put them into our drinks when were weren't looking...

Definitely a money saver ... you can find them on the internet for a buck a piece...

We picked up some very cool glow cubes before we went; paid $3.00 for packages of 4 on closeout at a cook store. We still have the glow cube from a visit 4 years ago, and although we haven't used it a lot, it still works fine.

Many of the restaurants in Disney offer them and they last a long time. But I read somewhere that you shouldn't put them in the freezer or they could crack and the colored gel may leak out. Don't know if that's true, but I keep mine in a drawer just in case!
