Do we have to eat Table Service?

Hi all,

Forgive me if this has been asked, but I couldn't find it in the FAQ or by doing a search.

Last time we went to Disney we did the Dining Plan and loved it, but found that table service was pretty much a hassle. I dutifully made my ADRs but we found that we resented having to be at a certain restaurant at a certain time. We would have been happier grabbing a quick service meal at the closest place.

My question is, do we have to use our table service credits at a sit-down restaurant or can we ask that when we run out of counter service credits, they use up our remaining table service?

Economics aside, this would be a relief.

Thanks!

You can totally use your TS credits at CS. It just isn't economical and since you seem like you already realize that...I don't need to say it. You may get a few odd glances at you because people don't normally use them for CS. You can also use CS credits for snacks but again not economical. You just can't use your CS credits for TS or Snack credits for CS/TS.

I know what you mean with being on a schedule and being a hassle but I love eating at TS and getting waited on.
Have fun!!

i would not get the dining plan if I wanted to eat like you mention. Or maybe you could get QS dining plan.

If you're doing the DDP CS doesn't make sense. If you're just going to eat CS, drop the dining plan and save the money

If I were you , I'd pay Out of Pocket. You can still use your key card to charge things to the room, so that you still have the convenience of not needing to carry cash or you personal cards around.

QS

I heard about Quick Service but that wasn't offered to us when we booked. Must be new? I would drop the dining plan but we already booked and paid through AAA so we're locked in. Didn't even dawn on me to pay out-of-pocket until recently.

I am not sure when the QS plan starts I would call and check on it. If you can do that I would switch to it. I am guessing you want to have everything paid for before you leave...that is why I do the DP. Here is hoping that they offer the QS plan for you. It would work out perfect for you with 2 QS & a snack/day.

Wasn't the QS plan announced for 2009? So, if your trip isn't until 2009, you could probably call and make the change -- they would credit you for the difference.

I know from experience that AAA does not require trips to be paid in full till 60 days out and from your siggy, I see you're not going till Nov. Your 60 days has not arrived yet. Is there no way you can make changes????? Did you talk with your AAA TA and see what they can do for you???? Mine is so great...has really bent over backwards to make this a fantastic trip.

If the change can't be made, I would at least go to a few ts meals and try to get the most value out of your plan. DHS is a smaller park and even if you're on the opposite side of the park when your adr time approaches, it's not that far to get to the restaurant you need. What about some nice breakfasts....then you're not taking away park time. If you do that, you can use your cs credit for a late lunch and then just snack later on. I personally love a sit down meal- someone to wait on me, bring me my food, clean up, and have a nice rest from the heat and crowds. I love so many of Disney's restaurants because they are an attraction all in themselves...character meals are fun and how can you not enjoy the atmosphere of Sci Fi, 50's Prime Time, o'hana??

I am so relieved I read this post. We are going during free dining and I am stressing out over the ADR's for TS. This is the first time I made ADR's for any trip and I am trying to figure out where we will be at certain times. Since it is free anyway, I won't feel bad using TS credits for CS. What a relief!!

We booked thru AAA and we are not required to pay in full until 45 days out just like booking thru Disney or anywhere else.

I would call and have them change your package and credit you the cost of DDP. Pay out of pocket by charging to your room or when you order. You can change your package even if you are paid in full they will just credit you the difference.

If you are not doing the DDP, you may also look into just getting a room only...AAA gives great discounts and then buy tkts separate(our AAA gives a discount and NH doesn't have tax-so it is a better deal if not getting a package w/DDP).

I agree, I would try to change it (I dont think the QS is good till 2009). You could try to get the DP taken off all together. If your stuck with it, I'd really try to make some ressies. I also am not the type that likes to take away a lot of park time for eating. But its a nice airconditioned break and if you schedule your ADR's for the park your going to already be in- it's not that out of the way and you have to eat anyways and it doesn't take that much longer to eat TS when you think of how long the CS lines can be at times. I also like the idea of the other poster- schedule TS breakfasts for early in the mornings and you wont need to miss any park time! Keep us updated.

I agree...sometimes just getting through the cs line can take 20 minutes!!

As for AAA, maybe it's just my office that requires 60 day payment in full??? In that case, you have even more time to make changes and get your money credited. Just because you chose to pay in full early doesn't mean you relinquish all rights to make changes.

Oh lord no, I had to pay last Spring!! Not an AAA requirement, just a single Mom requirement. My tax refund goes to Disney the minute I get it, otherwise I would squander it on frivolous things like bills and school clothes. :-)

That is part of the reason I go for the dining plan, I know our meals are taken care of and I don't have to worry about saving cash. The QS plan will be a god-send next time around.

this is interesting because when I made ourADR's this CM told me that they could not be used this way and If I didn't get the ressies, I'd just have to forfet(sp) the TS option. in other wise lose out on using it period.
