| Diabetic in the Parks I am a Type II who just diagnosed last month. I am not on medications yet, but monitoring with wiet and exercise (or at least I should be exercising). We are planning our 1st Diney trip. We will be staying at POFQ and on the standard DP with one counter abd one table service. We will do breakfast in the room each morning. This is the list of our DDP Reservations: Sat: Cat Cora's Place??? @ BW Sun: Chef Mickey @ CR Mon: Rest. Maraquesh?? @ EP Tues: Trusker House & Yak & Yeti @ AK Wed: Raglin Road @ DD Thursday: Sci-Fi Drive In @ DS Fri: Crystal Palace @ MK Are there anythings that I should plan for. I am counting carbs. Are chefs accomidating. Will the do special diet requests? What about dessets, snacks and counter service? Any help, suggestions and advice will be appreciated.

| Disney will accommodate you! For desserts Disney has no sugar desserts and if you let your waiter/waitress know when you arrive at your table they should be able to point out on the menu the meals that are good selections to meet your needs or how the chef can adjust some of the meals again to meet your needs! I think counter service is tougher compared to a sit down meal. It's going to be more difficult, at least I felt it was to find something for a diabetic. But I just got salads. I hope this helps and you have a great trip! ![]() |

| Disny has made a big push on "healthier options" in both their counter service and table service dining -- I think you will be pleasantly surprised. As Cheyenne mentioned, you could request a chef to come to your table to speak with you. Just have your diabetes noted in all of your Advanced Dining Reservations (ADRs). At counter service, a little advanced research of the menus will help you choose restaurants with the most choice -- I personally love the rotisserie chicken meals! Also, it would be good for you to contact the Special Dietary Requests team at Disney to get more information: Special Dietary Requests page at Disney's website. Email them at SpecialDiets@DisneyWorld.com or by telephone at 407-824-5967 Good luck! Eileen

| Both my step-son (14) and my dad (67) are diabetics. My Step-son was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes at age 5 and my Dad has Type II. We've been to Disney several times and the Disney Restaurants are most certainly accomodating! At your table service restaurants, just let your servers know that you have dietary restrictions and they will either provide you with recommendations or have the chef come out and speak with you. Counter service may be a bit tricky, but I do believe they have a few selections for those that are concerned about carbs, my father and step-son stuck to salads just to be safe. I do know that a majority of locations have some sort of sugar-free dessert. You will have a great time, just remember to speak up!!

| I was in the same boat for our last trip and stayed at the same resort and ate at almost all of those resturants! Its very do-able! I looked at the menus for my favorite places on the All Ears site and even ran ideas past my cde and my one here on the PP boards. only one did i have to ask for them to replace an item on my plate. I watched the portions i ate and saved carbs for i could have parts of my awesome desserts. my blood sugars ran just fine for the whole trip! i didn't ask for sugar-free desserts but imagine that they could make some great ones!

| For in-between meals, you can bring a couple of snacks like nuts (portioned in a plastic bag) or grab a piece of fruit. Keep it 15g and under. This will keep your sugar levels stable. If you have to have counter service, you could reduce the carbs by halving the buns; and watching the ketchup.

| TS is very accommodating for diabetics. CS is pretty much one size fits all. We always carry M&Ms and a small container of orange juice with us

| Just remember to keep checking your blood sugar. All the walking you will be doing may give you some low blood sugars. I suggest talking to your doctor about your trip, maybe he can prescribe a way to fit in a few special disney treats. |

| Make sure that if you are on meds that need to be in a fringe that you let them know in advance and they will get you a fridge in your room at no cost. They may request that you bring medical notification.

| My mom is diabetic and we went in 07 on the basic DDP. Even though I told her she could, not once did she order a special no-sugar dessert. She was careful and made sure she limited her carb intake so she could eat her regular dessert at the end of the meal. I'm sure by the time you go, you'll be a pro at carb counting and you'll know what you can and can't eat!
