AK meals We've already eaten at Pizzafari and Tusker House at AK and I did fancy trying Flame Tree Barbecue, but being veggie, it seems about the only option for me is the fruit salad. We're going to need something to eat after our Backstage Safari - now either we can leave AK and go somewhere else for lunch or we could eat at the Rainforest Cafe, but I've not heard great things about either the food or the waits to be seated. Has anyone had any personal experience of the food or the waits there? What's it like?

Re: AK meals I wasn't impressed with the Rainforest Cafe at either the Marketplace or AK. You might want to see if the restaurant at the AKL known as Boma serves lunch. I've heard great things about it from the discussion groups. You could check out Mara which is like the food court at AKL for a quick lunch and then tour the Lodge if you've never been there. The lobby and grounds are so beautiful to walk around.

Re: AK meals You can make a PS for the Rainforest Cafe at AK, so don't be scared off by the waits. We've always had great luck being seated with PS, although we've only eaten there twice. As far as food - while it is certainly not gourmet sit-down fare, it is very good for a sit down lunch. I had the Plant sandwich last time - I'm not a veggie, just like vegetables, and that's what I was in the mood for. It was absolutely delicious, and HUGE! Portobello mushroom for the base, with lots of warm sauteed veggies and cheese on it. While I love the Flametree BBQ, and the AK Meal deal, you will probably be better served as a veggie at the Rainforest - they had lots of veggie/seafood options. It is more expensive than the Flametree, of course.

Re: AK meals Hi Cheryl, In December my finacee and I had one of the best meals of our whole trip here. We didn't wait at all but we also sat in the bar section instead of waiting for a booth. The seats in the bar are painted to look like animals and were SO cool. Our waiter was one of those guys who came by just enought if you know what I mean. The food was so good that we had to be rolled out of this place. We didn't even have a PS, we just willing to sit in the bar. I didn't feel like we missed anything here either. You could still see the rainstorms etc.

Re: AK meals We've only eaten at the AK-RC for dinner at park closing (with a PS and no wait), but we enjoyed it. I read a tip once that the appetizers were better than the entrees, so DH and I split several appetizers. The kids ate kids' meals. My family really enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and airconditioning.

Re: AK meals We're not fans of the Rainforest Cafe. We have one here at our mall, so maybe it's just that it's not "special" anymore since we have one so close. The food is ok, but nothing spectacular.

Re: AK meals We had a terrible experience at the Rainforest Cafe at DTD - cold gooey food, tables too close together, poor service - and it put me off trying the one at AK. I also recommend going over to the Mara at AKL since it's a pretty quick trip over to AKL, but I don't believe Boma serves lunch.

Re: AK meals We ate at the RFC-AK on our last day at DisneyWorld last Sept. I had 2 $25 gift certificates. The food was pretty good, actually, but the wait was AWFUL. When we checked in they told us 20 mins and we waited nearly an hour. I was nervous, because we had to get back to AKL to meet our towncar driver. They do have good selections for vegetarians, though. I had a veggie burger and ended up taking half of it with me on the plane. I say make PS and go for it.

Re: AK meals I try to avoid RC as much as possible. I have eaten at 5-6 around the country, including AK and DTD. For some unknown reason DW loves the place so I go along for the ride. Lord know she does that for me all the time. It's not that the food is bad. It's just not worth the price or being crammed into the crowded dining room. I've never had anything at AK other than RC and Donald's Breakfastasaurus so I'm not much help there. Good Luck Craig

Re: AK meals Since we have a Rainforest Cafe in our area and we even belong to their Safari Club thingy (or whatever it's called), we didn't bother trying out any of the R.C.'s at WDW. But from what I've heard, the food and service at all of them is pretty much the same. If that's the case, as long as you make a P.S. for an off hour for lunch you should be fine. As for the food, although it's certainly not of the gourmet variety, it'a actually not bad at all. I really like their "Planet Earth Pasta" and it's served with a tomato sauce with no meat so it would be fine for a vegetarian. The atmosphere is a ton of fun, particularly if you have never eaten in a Rainforest Cafe before. If this is the case, make sure to tour around the restaurant and watch all the various "animal exhibits" when it's their showtime. And if you want to pig out on a yummy dessert order one of their volcanoes and split it. It's huge but quite delicious and they serve it in an amusing manner. Joy

Re: AK meals We have ate at Rainforest Cafe two times each for breakfast and had not problems with a wait. As for the food it was very good! Not sure if your backstage Safari will be over by the time they stop serving breakfast or not. Angela
