News for Gastric Bypass Patients... My fiancee and I are both gastric bypass patients and wanted to pass along our dining experiences while we were at Disney World this past weekend with my children. We were allowed to order off the children's menu or split a meal at every place we dined... we both have laminated personalized cards from our surgeon that states we are bypass patients and are limited to the amount of food we can consume and we presented them to all of our wait staff... we also have the Disney Dining Experience card and were allowed to use it as well. Here is a list of the places we ate without any problems: Crystal Palace (for breakfast, were charged as children) Liberty Inn (lunch, we had soup and salad which we split both) Whispering Canyon @ Wilderness Lodge (dinner... we were allowed to order the all you can eat bbq skillet off the children's menu) Rain Forrest Cafe @ Animal Kingdom (split a lunch) Kona Cafe @ Poly (dinner... split a meal) Boatwright's @ Port Orleans (split an omelet) It was a wonderful experience... everyone there was very supportive and took interest in our progress and asked us about it. Just some background for you guys, I am down 125lbs in 5 1/2 months (surgery was 07/29/04)... my fiancee is down 160lbs in 14 months (11/4/03). We just wanted to pass along the info as before we left we checked the boards to see if there was anything posted about eating as a bypass patient in the world. We are looking forward to our honeymoon trip in May )Love to you all.... Teri and John

Re: News for Gastric Bypass Patients... I know it's been a while since someone responded to this thread, but there are more & more folks out there who need this info. As for us, my mom had bypass and has lost 150lbs in just over16 mths. Yahoo!!! When dinning on the plan she had a problem with what to do about the drink. Anyone who has had surgery knows the patient can not drink for 15 min before or 45 min after a meal. On the second day I got a brain wave. She purchased a resort mug and took it to the parks with us. She transfered her drink to her mug and then was able to enjoy the drink when her time had elapsed. If we ever got a questioning look we just explained the sitch to the server and they would often "freshen" the drink just before we left.

Re: News for Gastric Bypass Patients... I work for a Bariatric Surgeon and know how hard it is to stay on track with your new diet when traveling. It is great to here that WDW is accomidating to your needs. It is hard enough to keep on track at home, harder on vacation. Congratulations and good luck!!!!
