FAQ’s and eateries shorthands

FAQ’s and eateries shorthands

Dining at Disney is constantly changing, so we’ve created this thread to answer some of your most frequently asked questions in the Eateries forum. We also aim to try and explain some of the most commonly used shorthands.

If there are any other shorthands you’d like explained or questions answered, then please contact either of your guides – Cheryl, Tim or Sheana and we’ll add them in here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is the Disney Dining Experience?
Essentially it’s a discount programme which gives Florida residents and Annual or Seasonal Passholders 20% off the price of food and beverages (including alcohol) at a huge range of restaurants on Disney property. There are some exclusions – for example, you can’t get the discount on major holidays and the discount only applies to the member’s check.

It costs $85.00 for Florida residents to join and $70.00 for a renewal. If you're an Annual or Seasonal Passholder (and this includes Annual Passholders for Pleasure Island), then it costs $60.00 to join. If you want to add your partner, then that will cost an additional $25.00.

For a full list of benefits and the restaurants you can get the discount at, check out All Ears Net

With the Magic Your Way tickets, you can add dining options in – how does this work?
You can now purchase a dining plan along with your accommodation and park admission. For a simple explanation of how this works and which restaurants are included, click here

Do I really have to make ADR's and at 180 days out?
This is something that a lot of people wonder, so we've gathered people's experiences on ADR's in this thread There was also a discussion here of which restaurants you might have the hardest job getting ADR's for.

How can I get into Cinderella’s Royal Table?
This used to be one of the hardest dining experiences at Disney to snag and still may present some problems, but now that the characters are present for breakfast, lunch and dinner, it's made things a lot easier.

The Planning Strategy calculator has some excellent strategies on how to make that elusive booking and there’s also some good first-hand advice from fellow PassPorters here

What are your favourite things to eat around World Showcase?
The World Showcase has endless dining opportunities, with 12 table service restaurants and 10 counter service restaurants, so where do you start? PassPorters came up with their favourites in this thread

Where can we eat at Disney without breaking the bank?
Although dining at Disney can be pricey, it doesn’t have to be. There are plenty of good places to eat more cheaply, as this thread highlights. Mousesavers also has some further money saving tips for you.

What’s the Fantasmic dining package?
All Ears Net sets out the information you need about this. Essentially the package gives you dinner at one of a selected number of restaurants at MGM, along with reserved seating for that night’s show of Fantasmic! As to which is the best restaurant to go to as part of the package, here are some ideas.

What’s the best character meal?
There are lots of questions posed about whether one character meal is better than the other one at Disney. With a total of 19 to pick from, there’s certainly plenty of choice, in terms of both food and characters. For this reason, we’ve asked the question already in the form of a poll. Click here for the results.

What's the best restaurant in Disney?
This question was most recently answered here and, as you can see, there are many different answers to this question! It really depends on people’s past experiences with restaurants, what type of food and atmosphere they like, but there is something for everyone at WDW!

What snacks should I try while I'm in Disney?
There are lots of different - and unique - snacks you can pick up in Disney, but which are the ones you really must sample? PassPorters gave their views on this question here

What about coffee? Where can I get the best coffee on Disney property?
We know that for coffee drinkers, this is an important question and this was answered here

Is Victoria and Albert’s worth the money?
Whenever anyone asks this question, the overwhelming response usually seems to be “yes”! Check out this thread to see what PassPorters think of this unique dining experience!

I’ve had gastic bypass surgery – what advice can you give me?
Check out this thread for some great advice.

Where can I find information about special dining events at Disney throughout the year?
All Ears Net has details of special dining events for Easter, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year, when many restaurants do something different and a bit special:
Easter
Mother's Day
Thanksgiving
Christmas
New Year's Eve

Where to dine for Thanksgiving has also been discussed here

What is the Candlelight Processional dining package?
This page on the Candlelight Processional answers all your questions about this package. Is it worth it? Check out the answers here

SHORTHANDS:

ADR's - Advanced Dining Reservations:
Not the same as a reservation, it guarantees your party the next available table at table service restaurants.

CP – the Crystal Palace
This restaurant is at the top of Main Street and is home to Pooh and his pals, who are there for breakfast, lunch and dinner. All meals are buffet and eat as much as you can.

CRT – Cinderella’s Royal Table
This restaurant, in Cinderella’s Castle in the Magic Kingdom, is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

DDE – Disney Dining Experience
See above in the Frequently Asked Questions section for more information on this.

H&V – Hollywood and Vine
Serves a dinner buffet in MGM nightly.

LTT – Liberty Tree Tavern
This restaurant, in Liberty Square in the Magic Kingdom, serves both lunch and dinne. Lunch is a la carte and at the eat all you can dinner, characters including Minnie and Pluto, are present and the food is brought to your table.

PS – Priority Seatings
This is what Advanced Dining Reservations used to be called.

PSB – Princess Storybook breakfast
This is served daily in Restaurant Akerhaus in Norway and although it’s an easier Princess meal to book than the breakfast at Cinderella Royal Table, it’s still exceptionally popular.

Any other questions about the wonderful world of food at Walt Disney World? Then post away and let other PassPorters help you out with the answers!

Hi,

When I first discovered web-based Disney communities, I thought that CRT stood for cathode-ray tube!

As always, you guys rock. I'm going on a dining included option package, so I'm picking out restuarants to use it up on. What are the best picks for dinner out there that you've used?

Re: FAQ’s and eateries shorthands

Hello! Do you have any reccomendations for where to eat on Thanksgiving Day? I checked out the specials list at allears.net and I was just wondering if you or anyone listening had advice on which restaurant has a good Tday experience. I'm hoping I haven't completely missed the advance reservation boat on this one and I'll still be able to reserve somewhere in the World! Thanks!

Re: FAQ’s and eateries shorthands

With MYW Dining is it allowed to 'split' a table service meal between 2 people and only be charged for 1 meal?

After reading many of the comments on this site it sounds like the quantity of food can be overwhelming for some with the dining plan.

Thanx in advance!
