HOW TO: Use Smilies (a.k.a. Pixies and Emoticons)

Everyone can insert smilies into their posts! (This is a smiley: )

The fastest way is simply to use the old-fashioned text symbols, which are then converted into smilies after your post. For example, typing a colon : and a close parentheses ) results in this smiley after you post: This method also works for other smilies, such as the smilie that looks surprised or impressed (also known as the "oooo" smilie). If you type colon : the code word oooo and another colon :, the smiley is displayed after you post like this

There must be an easier way to make smilies, you say! And there is. When you type a post, look for a smilie menu to the right of your text box. Just click one of the smilies and it will be inserted in your post. The More link displays many more smilies to choose from. It's that simple.

But I don't see a smilie menu!, you say. In order to see the smilie menu, you must be using the standard or enhanced message editor interface, not the basic interface. You can check which interface you're using (and change it if necessary), by going to My Home > [url= http://www.passporterboards.com/forums/profile.php?do=editoptions]Edit Options (scroll to the bottom)

Why don't smilies appear when I write a Quick Reply? you ask. This isn't a default option of our message board software, but we are investigating ways to add a simple smiley menu to the Quick Reply editor toolbar. If you don't see it but want to use a smiley, just click the Go Advanced button under the Quick Reply text box.
