Boards don't look right

I've been having problems with my laptop and hopefully those are fixed, but today is the first time I've had my computer back since the boards changed servers. On my other computers, the boards look normal with all the boxes and background colors, etc. On my laptop, the very top of the screen looks normal (Passporter logo, tabs in different colors, etc), but everything else doesn't. Instead of everything being in the boxes I'm used to seeing, the background is stark white with the writing and I find it difficult to read the boards. Is there a setting I need to change, is it something with the new server, or a problem with my newly fixed computer? I have Windows XP and before I sent the computer out, everything worked fine here. TIA for any help or suggestions.

First suggestion is to log off the boards, clear out all your cache and cookies, then log back in.

I tried that as it was the first thing I thought of. I know when I first joined, there was a tab in the threads so I could print a reply. Although I don't see that anymore, it almost seems like its that printable view that I'm seeing.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and see if you have a box on the left side that allows you to change the page format?

I don't see one. Oh well. If I don't get used to it, I can always kick Abby or Lenny off the other computer and make them use this one so I can browse the boards on the other computer. I'm sure it will be a real hardship for them to use the faster laptop with XP while I use the slower computer with ME .

Hmmmm....

If they're looking okay on the other computers, it has to be something in the setup on this one...

Check your settings in internet explorer, or go to tools/options and reset internet explorer to the default state...

I didn't reset anything yet. I was just clicking different things - basically comparing what my computer says compared to
Abby's. When I right click in the middle of the page, then click on properties, my laptop says for document type HTML. Abby's says PHP. Could this be why I see it differently on the laptop? If it is, is there anyway to change it?

I just want to thank you too for all your help so far and for any more you give me. I am in no way technical. I can do some stuff, but other stuff is definitely over my head (like this problem since I can't seem to figure it out.)

On all the computers I have Windows and I'm using Internet Explorer. I'm not sure which versions of IE though. I just know they are different (mine has tabbed browsing, Abby's doesn't if that helps.)

She's running version 6 and you're probably on version 7...

When I click on properties on mine (in internet explorer which I don't use), it's HTML, so that shouldn't make a difference...

Go to Tools/Internet Options/General Tab/Accessibility and make sure none of those boxes are checked.

If everything there is okay, then go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced Tab. Click on Restore Advanced settings, click on Okay and then shut down Internet Explorer. Open it back up and check to see if it's still the same as before.

If it is, go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced Tab and click on Reset. Then click on Okay, shut it down and restart it.

If that don't fix it, I'll have to do some serious digging....

Guess what? It didn't fix it. I am totally stumped by this as I'm sure you are too. Like I said, I'd been having problems with the laptop and I sent it to HP to be fixed. Supposedly it was somthing with the system board, but that's all the paperwork said. I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with that because the boards are the only website that looks different. I've checked out a bunch of other websites I go to and they all look fine so unless I've somehow clikced on something here (if I did, I can't find it again), I don't know why it's only this site affected.. Who knows? Maybe it's just my computer rebelling. I have no luck with electronics because stuff like this only happens to me. My hubby has bought for me over that last few years a couple of DVD recorders - they don't work right for me. The tv in the bedroom rolls and has lines whenever I'm near it. I have a baby monitor hooked up - I get near it and all I hear is static. On second thought, maybe it's me. Maybe I have an electric personallity that the electronics don't like. Who knows? I really want to thank you. I do appreciate all your help Bill. Since everything you suggested didn't work (probably because I tried to do it), I wouldn't worry about it anymore because I don't want to take up all of your time. I can still access the boards, which is definitely the important part. I just don't get all of the colors I'm used to seeing. Thanks again Bill.

Jennifer's out of town right now, I'll see if she can look at it when she gets back. Maybe she can see something we've missed...
