Pardon this possible dumb question, but I can't figure out what the red numbers in parentheses mean next to 'Posts', 'Views' and 'Replies'. Can anyone enlighten me?

I think the number you're talking about represents the number of unread posts in that particular thread. Of course, the numbers will be different for everyone, depending on how many posts in that thread you have already read.
