Does Anyone Know About Airlines Checking Last Names?
My DD and I will be doing a girls only trip in October. Since I never changed my last name when I got married, (he won't change his either!) my DD's last name is different from mine. Will the airlines give me a problem at checkin? Like will I have to prove to them that she is mine and that I'm not a child abductor or something?

That is a good question. Like Janice said, they do not check ID for children. I didn't even bring a birth certificate. But, if you are concerned, just take the birth certificate with you. That should do it!
Yes, in the past they alwasy just look to see who is who at check-in. But that's when we have traveled as a whole family. I just didn't want them to say, hey that kid has a different last name than you. Guess I'll have to bring ID anyway.
It's all my DH's fault, he shoudl have chanaged HIS last name to mine when we got married!

it's pretty clear. in the US, there is no ID check for anyone under 18 when flying domestically (with minor stipulations if the child is of a certain age *and* flying solo). the child doesn't have to have anyone's last name, doesn't have to look anything like any of you, doesn't have to be the same race, color, creed or even related to you.

Kind of a scary thought actually. With all of the passport/REAL ID stuff going down I wonder if that'll change over the next few years. I wouldn't mind!
My perspective may be a little different because to cross the boarder(Canada to U.S), whether child has same last name or not they are getting sticky about a letter from the other( non-travelling parent) verifying that they are aware, almost permission like. Now this may be different if traveling domestically. Unless you can contact airport I'd check with a TA and see if they could tell you more. And make sure you have all ID.
