POFQ: buses good or rental car? Can't decide!

My title say it all.....we've never stayed at POFQ, just Pop when we've stayed onsite, so our experiences have only been with the Pop resort buses. I know that POFQ is much smaller and the bus service is supposedly quicker, but haven't used it myself of course! We have a couple resort meals planned, and we definitely want to hit some of the resorts to check out the holiday decorations. We usually try to hit Olive Garden when we're down there since there isn't one in Alaska. So it would seem that a rental might be needed, but I kinda dread dealing with driving and parking and hiking. We usually do it, and I have no issues driving myself around, we've been there enough that I don't usually get lost. I guess I really prefer not dealing with a car, except for the huge end of evening lines that I'm used to at the Pop bus stops. I know that I'm rambling but I hope you get what I mean. Those of you that have stayed at POFQ, was it easy to just depend on the buses?

Also ,isn't there an Olive Garden near DTD? Maybe a cab from there if we don't rent a car? Anyone try that? TIA!

There is an Olive Garden on South Vineland-Apopka Road, about a 5 mile trip from your hotel.

POFQ is a great resort, which I especially enjoy because it is compact and easy to navigate. There is only one bus stop and the resort does share bus routes with its sister resort, POR. This is an advantage to staying at POFQ, IMHO, although both resorts are quite lovely. POR is very large and has 5 bus stops. We almost always make do without a car and it works, with some advance planning. For example, if you have ADRs at a resort or simply want to visit, you need to head to a theme or water park first and catch another bus. We usually end up at DTD. It is not onerous, but does take extra time, so plan ahead for it. A car will give you extra flexibility, of course, but we'd rather do without. We would not use it often enough to justify the expense.

Only had one problem with the buses at POFQ which can happen anywhere. They didn't send an Epcot bus for 20mins, which is their standard. By the time it got there it only fit half of the people going to Epcot. Usually if the driver leaves alot of people they radio for another to come asap. That didn't happen this time. Another one didn't come for another 20mins. By the time the second bus got there it still couldn't fit everyone. I gave up and hopped aboard a AK bus which meanwhile seemed to be showing up every 5mins. But like I said, that kind of snafu can happen anywhere. Otherwise it was fine. I think POFQ and POR each have their own MK bus if I remember correctly. They share going to the other parks though.

Thanks for the info! I feel better already and have decided to forget about renting a car. Any money I spend on a couple cab rides will be much less than I'd spend on the rental!
