We booked a red-eye leaving home airport at 11pm, with a connecting flight in Chicago to Ft. lauderdale arriving the next day for Aug. trip. I just thought I should check my reservations last night, because I know airlines will change your reservations without sending notice- even though I sign up for notices
And yes they did change my flights. United cancelled our early morning connection in Chicago, and put us on a later flight with a 5 hr layover. I don't think so!!!
So I asked to be re-routed. Now we have a early morning flight out, and arrive the same day at 7:30pm. Only prob is that I've booked my car rental at a really good price, and to add on a day- picking it up a day early added over $300 to the price at the current rental pricing.
It's cheaper to stay at a hotel for the night, and pick up the car as planned on orig. reservation So that's o.k. I booked a beachfront hotel for the night not far from airport- $50 cab ride RT, and it's still cheaper then re booking car rental.
Sorry to hear of your flight troubles! How frustrating! The airlines have no idea all the hassle and expense it causes it's customers when they cancel or change flights. Looks like you were able to make some lemonade out of the lemons . Enjoy that beachfront hotel!
Glad its going to work out for you, it is a bummer when they change things. I dont mind a bit of a flight time change but once they changed us to a connecting flight when we had non stop. They couldnt do a non stop so we got our money back and went with another airline what a hassle to go thru to try rebooking only weeks out from the vacation

Glad you managed to sort it all out. I can't believe airlines over there can get away with that! I just had an email this morning, saying a flight we're booked on will be landing five minutes later than originally planned and they have to contact us to tell us that.

Sometimes we are at the mercy of the airlines. Way to work out a relaxing pre-trip stay on the beach due to some unexpected changes to your flights. And, way to respond to your intuition to check on the reservation!
So sorry to hear of your troubles, but glad it worked out ok! I am so thankful that I have 3 airports within an hour and half drive of my house so I can pick and choose a bit more. International travel makes it a little more difficult. Wouldn't it be nice if the corporations behind the trouble making could be held responsible for the problems they cause, but we all know they change or drop flights because of their business issues, not our personal ones.

Had it happen to us only we didn't find out till we got to airport(message on answering machine didn't come in till after our flight time had passed-- we went to the airport an hour early(it was before 9/11) Glad you were able to work things out!!!
ugh, i can't believe they can get away with that. Any other industry it would be like a breach of contract or something.... makes me happy that we drive even if it takes forever. Enjoy the beach!

I can't believe how many flight routes are being cut out. When trying to find other options, I was surprised. Denver used to be a United Hub- with direct flights to Florida- not anymore. So have to fly Vancouver to Houston, then Houston to Florida.
Houston in the summer makes me nervous because of the storms. 2 yrs ago our flight from Seattle-Houston was very delayed because of all the gulf coast storms.
