Today I broke down and bought the airline tickets so we can go back to Reality. : (
I have been looking and checking out sites for 6 weeks for this upcoming trip June 14th to June 23rd. The prices have been totally outrageous- and I know it has to do with the gas. However I did get one-way tickets to Orlando from SW at $454 total for 4 people.
Today something told me to wait another week- but then I noticed USAirways went up $10 from last week. Plus the take off time was what I really wanted, however there weren't 4 seats together. Oh, well! Airtran hasn't budged and I refuse to buy $432.00 each, for ONE-WAY! United was cheap if you left at 6:00am. But that same voice later told me to buy the SW at $196 one-way each. This flight does leave at 7:55pm, and I was hoping to leave around 5pm. (I did look over my "schedule" to see if leaving Friday would be better- but selfishly I had my heart on staying til Saturday!)
Here is the Positive:
1. No baggage fees either way! (Yeah)
2. No buying seats, either way! (another Yeah)
3. The Math: Total trip: $1237.60 divide 4= $309.40 divide 2= $155.00 per one-way per person.
Where am I ever going to see that price????.... I think I FINALLY realized that maybe those prices weren't going to come down- but just keep going up slowly. I feel some relief off my shoulders, but of course I will "miss" checking the airlines everyday. : ) ( I may check them out every so often)
Thank you for allowing me to "vent"- I hope everyone finds their airline prices and times to what they can afford.
Congrats! Now, breath a sigh of relief that the tough decision of "when to buy" is over. And, yes, you can keep checking. . . I do! It only makes me feel bad when the prices have gone down. . . and that doesn't happen very often. Way to go with your gut! The trip is real now!
Now you can breathe and not worry about it! That is worth a lot! I bought our tickets in Feb. but still watch the prices go up and down then up. So, glad I bit the bullet. I saw that the tickets we bought have been from $340-415. We paid $350 so I feel pretty happy with that!
I can now breathe...ahhhhhhhhhh... Big load off my shoulders.. and I don't need to check the flights anymore (or at least not every day 3 times a day).
Now sometime around May 14th I will be buying Park tickets. That is the next purchase, but I don't have to check any sites for that.
If so, you may be interested in the Disney Y.E.S. program for deeply discounted tix! (Stands for Youth in Education Series.) Basically, at least 1 child must take a few hour Disney "class" offered at one of the parks, and the corresponding adult/family will receive tix for approximately HALF off! This is an open enrollment for individuals, but they also have special programs for class trips and home schooled children.
I have 2 sons- 19 and 15. Thank you for the information. However I don't see my youngest wanting to do that, because he gets out of school on June 11th. Plus we are "celebrating" 1st year in college and 1st year in high school.
Thanks for giving me the link too..... I have a site that I have bought my park tickets before and they are already discounted, with free shipping too. Thanks for looking out for me! : )
Congratulations! I have resolved to driving from Philadelphia, because I just can't justify how expensive USAir tix are right now for the week of our trip. Unfortunately we won't fly SWA with our child because of a peanut allergy.
Congrats!-we live close by in Downingtown!!
I bought through AirTran one way for $133 with seats[paid]. Have not bought the return trip yet for September. We leave at 8:30am-arr. 11am-hopeing to return around 7pm.
Mike56- I have noticed that you are down the street from me, lol! I hope you can find a flight that is within your price and time. All I kept checking is the main sites of SW, AirTran, and UsAirways. The flight leaves at 6:20am, I haven't even figured out when I will get up- maybe I won't go to bed or I go to sleep at 7pm..yeah, right!
PhilsEagles08- I did okay with the flight going down, but $196 per person to coming home? I think the price breakdown seems okay, because of the cheap flight in the morning. Otherwise it would have been higher, if we had gotten a non-stop flight or I waited longer!! I know there were cheaper flights in February, but at that time I did not know we were going to Disney.
Happymommy- More power to you for driving to Florida! Your kids are VERY patient! I guess if AirTran wasn't so dang expensive, you too would be flying... Keep checking, because I read somewhere that a trip that is 1 1/2 months out, the prices might come down...
My thought on AirTran is why were the prices so high on the weekend we needed to go home? The weekend before and after were priced much more reasonable. So strange!!.. and annoying... GRRRRRRRRRRRR!
Thinkpink- I don't want to go back to Reality!..LOL!
PS- Mike56. how do you get to the airport? That is my next project.
We always stay the night before we arrive at the Philly Airport-we use stay123.com to look up hotels that offer free parking for the trip-I usually stay at Wyndham Garden-free parking-pool-internet-free shuttle. [$119] I arrive at the airport 11/2-2hrs before departure-I always confirm my flight 24hrs in advance of departure. The hotel will also pick you up when you return. I usually get to the hotel around 3pm-relax-eat next door[Dennys] and make arrangements for time for shuttle pick me up to go to the airport. I also have used Winner parking ,close to the airport ,to leave my car-around $6.50/day.
remember to allow time for traffic problems on the blue rte and I-95.
I paid $118 one way[direct]/each from Airtran plus $30 for the two seats going down in September.
Let me know if you need further help-glad to do it!!
