Typcially, what are the best summer days for flying?
We're not going anywhere this year but I am starting to think of next summer. As in the past, we're looking at August again. We went in July last year and we didn't enjoy it as much and unfortunately, the tour groups were the biggest problem (too short of a vacation was the other problem).
Luckily Abby and I would be out of school and Lenny is at Walgreens which is retail so we don't have to stick to what I think of as a traditional vacation (meaing from Sunday to Saturday). I was actually looking at a Monday to the following Thursday (10 nights total) because when we took the train, that time frame seemed to work really well for us. Since we're really picky about where and how we want to stay, I'll be booking the room probably long before airfare rates are released. I just think it's easier to make sure I have my room and work the airfare around that versus getting good airfare and hoping Disney has the rooms we want, but that's just me. So anyway, out of curiousity, I looked online at SWA (who we'd use) but there didn't really seem to be a day that was a "clear winner" for flying. It's probably due to the fact that it's May already and lots of people have probably already purchased the airfare at cheaper prices. Or it could just be with SWA it doesn't matter what day you fly. I don't know so that's why I'd like to hear what you guys think/have experienced/etc.
TIA for any and all comments/etc.

We've had good luck with mid-week flight fares. Since our next trip is a cruise, our outbound flight was restricted to a specific day due to school/work and sailing date, but our return flight was flexible, as we are staying at the World after our cruise.
I did the opposite, Darlene. I found the least expensive day to fly back and then booked our resort stay based on the dates of our flights.
DD has been searching flights a lot for coming home from the Virgin Islands. She was totally flexible and found the best rates were definitely midweek.
On SWA, I have found the cheapest fares to be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays most consistently. It maybe be helpful to know that I have seen the highest fares on Sundays.

For those days (Tue, Thur, Sat), is it consistent from the time dates open up or if I book as early as I can, do you think all days will be pretty low? Obviously I can't get any rates right now but as it gets closer to the end of the year, I'm going to keep my eyes open for when dates open up.

When I looked on SWA, I did notice Sunday was pretty high but didn't know if it was because it's just high or if it was because of the dates I was looking at are pretty close. Knowing that they tend to be higher makes me glad we don't have to do the Sunday to Saturday vacations.

That is the case for SW sales. What about Wed - second Sat? That's 10 days
Now that's an idea, thanks for thinking of that.

Just another vote for the cheaper fares on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday. I've been looking at airfare 2-3 times a week for the past few months for an upcoming trip and, as far as flying on SWA goes, that seems to be pretty consistent. My guess about higher airfare on Sunday is a) travelers hurrying back home from vacation to be back at work on Monday and b) the business traveler flying out so they can make a meeting first thing Monday morning.
