Air Tran open to Jan 4, 2013

I was excited to see that Air Tran has opened up their schedule to include flights for our Nov 28 trip...

Until I saw that the fare From Buffalo to MCO was $481 per person ONE WAY!
I guess I won't be booking just yet.

I had been checking October fares just to get an idea of what Air Tran offered and found their one non-stop from BUF to MCO was $110, and was pretty happy with that. Can't believe the same trip costs over 300% more one month later!

Hoping that when southwest fares are released on Monday I find something a little more in my price range!

But when I make my choices, as if to purchase, the total cost for two people, round trip is $811.00 ??

It clearly states on the top of the page that the fares displayed are PER PERSON, ONE WAY, so how does $406 X 2 people X both ways = $811. Am I missing something?

It's still too much. Jet blue has $160 fares and the first checked bag free.
This is always a very streesful decision!

Yikes! I was waiting to book the second leg of our trip from MCO to PHL and that fare is also well over $400 - ONE WAY! I bought our flights out for $119. Bye, bye Air Tran. I will wait for SWA on Monday and hope they have something better, and also hope they have non-stop flights. I never expected the flights to be his high.

We have been flying the nonstop to MCO on Air Tran the last 3 years and again next week and in october, maybe we have gotten lucky but we have always had great deals compared to anyone else. We even compared if we drove to a bigger city a few hours away from our home to see if that would make a difference and AirTran has still always won on the price. For our WDW trip in Oct. we got nonstop flights and for the 3 of us roundtrip it was around $650. I hope they keep up their low fares becuase thats the only way we can afford to get down there as my DH is anti-driving 18hours Hope some good fares come your way. We have become a bit spoiled w/ their nonstop flights the last few years(especially w/ little ones its awesome). We are actually leaving next friday to visit WDW and my FIL booked the tickets through AirTran this trip and we have to stop, we were so bummed, but happy we are going away

We also live in WNY and for 3 of us in Oct., it came to $800 not including extra fees for seats, baggage. This is a direct flight round trip. I hope your flight is not too expensive.

Sometimes the AirTran flights are a bit high when they are first released. Give them a few days and they will most likely adjust a bit. Sadly, AirTran, our favorite airline, is no longer serving nearby airports as they continue the transition in Southwest ownership.

Good luck!

I was going to say the same thing. They seem to release the dates with ridiculously high fares that inevitably come down to more competitive prices -- which doesn't make much sense when other airlines, like Delta, have had their fares out for well beyond January and are considerably lower already.

But, being that AirTran is usually one of the cheaper airlines to fly, I guess they know people will wait for them to update the rates.

That being said, DH and I flew them for the first time last November and loved them -- until Southwest took over and stopped flying nonstop out of Detroit...or so I thought. There seem to be a few non-stop flights (like one!) each weekend during our trip this year -- and I may have to move my dates to accommodate those flights due to AirTran's great service last year! *fingers crossed Southwest's takeover doesn't change that!*

Thanks for the feedback! I will definitely keep checking fares for Air Tran, Southwest and Jet Blue before making any flight arrangements. We've got 6 months, so I'm not in a big rush.

Wow! My flights went down more than $300 pp today! I got the exact flights I wanted for essentially the same fare as I purchased my flights to MCO... $121. I wasn't taking any chances, so I snatched them right away. It's possible SWA may be a bit better tomorrow morning, but not worth the worry for me. Last time I waited and SWA removed all the direct flights. Good luck to everyone!

Just checked AirTran and the flights I'm interested in are down to $110 as well.
I'll look at SW tomorrow and then make the decision.
